For someone with "politician" in their handle, this seems tone deaf to who Obama has always been. Let's not forget that Obama had billionaires in his cabinet. Perhaps you are confusing him with someone else?

Who cares if Bezos sucks? It's not like the leader of some adversarial foreign state tried to donate 100M. What presidential library is going to turn down a 100M donation from an American philanthropist, admirable or otherwise? Answer: none.

I'm fine with the ultra wealthy donating lots and lots of money like this, to worthy causes, organizations, etc. I personally don't care who the donors are, and even if they're doing it to avoid paying taxes or whatever, fine, just keep donating and donating, and donating...and donating.

McKenzie Bezos is a great example of someone who realizes that they have more money than perhaps only 12 or so other people on the planet (one of whom also happens to be her ex husband), and just gives to as many causes as she can because she recognizes there is so much need. If her ex decides to donate even 1/4 of what she's donated so far, awesome, keep going, and to as many organizations as possible.

This. Continues to be amusing to see people lash out at what will be a world-class investment on the South Side.

Any updates on the location itself? Are they still digging through earth and tearing down trees?

Yeah, what person who has the ability to make a 100M donation doesn't suck (in some way, according to someone)?

It's excellent news for the foundation. Hopefully they won't be required to host amazon lockers rent free though!

I didn't say they should turn down the donation. Obviously every institution that relies on gifts and donations will have to accept money from rich people with questionable ethics. It's always been that way.

That doesn't mean I need to be happy about it, although I do appreciate that Bezos is not asking for his name on anything and putting John Lewis' name instead. I wish Bezos would spend his money getting the John Lewis Act through Congress instead, that would be a far better tribute to the man than a random plaza in a city far from Lewis' home state.

Lukas @ Urbanize Chicago is reporting that full building permits have been issued for all four structures that comprise the OPC

Alright everyone, these are some giant images, but I think it's worth it because you can see more detail since they're pretty long shots.

I wonder if they're coming across any archeological treasures from the 1893 fair? I hope that stuff is being documented and preserved.

Considering the buildings were made of gypsum, I have my doubts they'll find much of anything. Do you mean like buried souvenirs?
