Oh, alright Thank you. Yeah. That corner could use some work. The NE corner used to have a burger drive-through ... what was it called? Checkers?

It's close enough to the Brown Line to be a TOD project. How about a nice 10-15 story infill building with no parking?

There's a little bit of glass up at the new McCormick Place hotel, if any photographers want to head down there for everyone else's benefit.

Rumor has it that since Northwestern athletics is going to be homeless for the 2017-2018 season, the arena portion of this project will be booked solid for its first full year of operation and that should keep the hotel full as well. Great for the financial viability of the whole thing (if the rumor plays out, that is).

Bill Smith Dies

Just thought it was worth a mention here - given his many significant high-quality additions to the Chicago skyline over the past couple decades, that developer Bill Smith - of Smithfield Properties - died suddenly over the weekend, as Crain's reported yesterday.

Sad news, but very nice legacy that he left fans of architecture and contributions to the urban fabric and vitality of downtown.....

.....And that legacy is still being added to - with 400 W. Huron under construction, and 808 N Wells (assuming it goes ahead and is built in the next year or two) still planned.....

With zero permits and an outdated PD that still needs to be refiled.

It's got nothing to do with Nobu, it's the developer Mark Hunt. He screwed the pooch with the Three Arts Club version of Soho House ten years ago and he's trying his damnedest to do it again with Nobu apparently. I have been pointing this out for a while, but I don't think anyone has noticed. Mark Burnt has a special gift for pissing off NIMBYs which is great and all, but it results in a total inability to get projects done.

627 Apartments, 17-Story Tower Planned for West Loop's H2O Site
https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/2016...loops-h2o-site
Quote:
Chicago-based developer The John Buck Co. plans to build 627 apartments in four buildings atop a two-story parking podium on the block-long site bound by Madison, Green, Monroe and Peoria streets. The four towers would range in height from 13 stories to 17 stories, according to renderings obtained by DNAinfo Chicago in April.
I wish the skin of the buildings continued down to street level, and then something different was done for the podium sections between buildings, to break it up and give the streetscape more texture.

...the latest design from Chicago-based GREC Architects will better reflect the West Loop’s emerging industrial-inspired aesthetic.
Sounds like the design leaked to DNA has probably changed.

I love all the new buildings and all, but I highly doubt Chicago can absorb all these new apts. I just do not see it. the affordable housing crowd should love it though, cause when this bubble pops...there will be plenty of affordable units.

As much as I like the density and parking ratio, I've never been a fan of multi-building developments from the same developer. It's typically just the same building style redone multiple times. Just looks redundant to me. Ex: K-Station area.
