^^^ Holy outdated reference batman...

Just for perspective, the Spire officially broke ground four days before the first iPhone was released. This debacle started before smartphones were a thing...

They're maple trees. They grow like weeds and are technically an invasive species.

Maples are the best trees in the fall though. Simply stunning leaf coloration.

The Norway Maple is invasive. They are also susceptible to leaf fungus. There are indigenous Maples however and they look good on a flag

I was going to say, maples are indigenous to North America to the point where it's the icon of the most forested country on Earth...

Norway maples are garbage and don't actually handle our climate all that well, sugar maples, red maples, and silver maples are all native and grow like freaking weeds in the US. I've got a monster sugar maple in front of my house in Chicago and it's so large it is basically overgrowing and choking out the norway maples planted in front of my neighbors houses.

And really not that long ago. Gypsy with Natalie Wood was early '60s. Those years for me were not spent in Chicago, but otherwise that would be contemporaneous.
