Yeah... And who knows what all leached into the dirt /groundwater from that pile, and other flooded sites. I assume that the county & EGLE upped their testing of groundwater for a while in the aftermath of all this, but I don't know for sure.

Bay City -

This is at least 1 year out, but some new affordable townhomes and detached homes are being planned for Henry Street, on the city's west side. I can't discern exactly where, based on this article -

Jolt Credit Union - which I hadn't heard of until I realized it is the rebranded Catholic Federal Credit Union - just broke ground on its new Administration Building. It will be constructed on State Street, on a vacant lot adjacent to its operations there. I'm not crazy about the design. I suppose they drew inspiration from their current facility and the adjacent suburban architecture. It looks more like an indoor storage facility than a bank HQ -

Yeah this style is par for the course in that area. Lots of split face block, standing seam roofs and metal panel facades.

Looks like something built 20 years ago. Not a fan of the design at all.

In all fairness I’m rarely wowed by modern bank architecture. Unless it’s a new credit union, so very few bank / office combos are built these days and they’re either renovating existing banks eliminated through mergers or have storefront locations. Drive through banks in Chicago are looking like dinosaurs and some of the 90’s and 00’s buildings are actually being torn down for larger development. You mostly see these proposals in suburban areas that lack substantial architecture, so the result is a product of its context.

I read that it was designed by HED. Always been a fan of their local work and they were also the architect on the Lathrop homes development in Chicago which is turning out nicely.

Delta College’s new Downtown Midland Center officially opened last month, with both a public open house on August 7 and a formal dedication ceremony on August 12. This opening marks "the completion of a multi-year effort to bring Delta to downtown areas in the three major districts it serves: Bay City, Midland and Saginaw."

These photos are from some weeks ago now, but I think they are kind of interesting / worth sharing. The Dow Event Center is getting a new ice rink, including 11+ miles of new refrigerant pipe and 300 CY of concrete. The upgraded rink will be ready in time for the upcoming hockey season -
