I think a big part of the hype is that it evokes the classic setback aesthetic just from the massing alone. I'm personally a fan as well. But I think that the facade should enhance it even more. And from that one photo of the base I can imagine it will look pretty good

You're critiquing it as though you're seen the facade and overall detailing. Everyone is excited by the height, because that (along with scaling) is the only facts we have.

Well, that, and the fact this is being designed by the most high-profile commercial architect on the planet, and occupied by the largest, most high profile bank on the planet.

A reasonable person would conclude the facade and detailing will be of extremely high quality.

Yes.

I was thinking the same, mostly so it becomes a part of the family like Vanderbilt. I'm convinced it will be a high quality design either way.

It would be as massive as Metlife (Pan Am) for more than half it's height, then taper just enough to not crowd out the other stars in the area.

Wow! Its like march of the supertalls. Midtown alone has the ESB leading the pack. And that's without Tower Fifth and a Grand Hyatt tower.

Imagine if they made the bottom of it skinnier and made the whole thing taller at 1,800 ft to the roof. In the center of the midtown skyline it'd be perfect. Either way it will be really awesome though

The model is awesome, but it doesn’t depict the articulation on the n/s facades attributed to the fact that the building widens progressively from the east and west sides.

This could be a stunner based on the renderings of the base. Looking forward to seeing Chase's logo at the top lit up at night.

These look so good. Would love something like this, I'm just happy were getting some shape to this thing. I love the vertical slice look.

Excellent!

I wonder if the setbacks will wrap around all sides or if there will be two totally flat walls, I kind of hope it's the latter for some variation.

Remember, the lower (cantilevered) portion is pleated, so there is still much more to be revealed as far as the design goes, but the drawings give us a good visualization of how it will fit in the skyline.

I was under the impression that the pleats ran up the whole tower to the top.
