Also walked by 90 Alexander Ave today. It looks like people are starting to move into the residential suites but the ground floor commercial is still under construction.

^I drove by yesterday evening around 10 pm and there were lights on in at least 50% of the windows, potted plants on the window sills, etc. So nice to see. This building is a key project in keeping the residential moving northward up waterfront. Now for the Alexander Docks...

We shouldn’t have to wait too long for the Alexander docks with The Forks taking over that site.

So with the area designated/zoned as greenspace, will anything actually be developed here besides a park? Will the docks be refurbished for boat use? I really miss the Paddlewheel Queen and Lord Selkirk cruises on the river

A lot here don't like the Chinatown proposal because Chinatown is dead and located on Pembina Hwy now.

I don't think it's a bad thing to have two Asian oriented districts. Sure Pembina is a commercial district but doesn't have much going for it in terms of meeting places, the arts, etc. Perhaps downtown Chinatown can be reoriented to a more "multicultural town" for different Asian ethnicities. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, etc

True everywhere. "Ethnoburbs".

Toronto's Chinatown is now Markham. Vancouver's is Richmond. New York's is Flushing.

Just drove down Galt Ave. The new streetscaping seems to be complete. It should be the city-wide standard for how to treat the pubic realm.. the same pedestrian-scale lights along the newly completed sections of Broadway would have been great, but alas we got plain, utilitarian crap.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's Galt like half parking lot on the North side?

I really love the streetscape myself a little further South at Lily South of Rupert. Lovely area.

There's no reason to whitewash our Chinatown when revitalizing it. And development will happen there, sooner or later. It would be insane to just let it rot, right in the middle of a development boom.
It's a unique part of Winnipeg's cultural history. Vancouver, Toronto, and New York are good examples to use because their downtown Chinatown neighbourhoods live on as cultural landmarks even when they are no longer culturally homogeneous residential areas.

The fact of the matter is that the area needs attention one way or another. Might as well lean into what it already has going for it. Unique architecture, cultural heritage, and existing businesses that people still travel (though maybe not clear across the city) to the neighbourhood for.
I'm not suggesting some tacky Orientalist revival but working with what is already there and granting the area its own vibe that sets it apart from the rest of the Exchange.

Most of the “parking lot” to the north of Galt is owned by Nutty Club and the block long Eaton warehouse. It is tied to the building.

The City did not allocate budget to fencing on Duncan. A mistake in my opinion.

There is also finally a safe direct route into Edwin, Duncan and Galt. This links directly to Waterfront Drive.

It’s a great improvement!

The big wart to deal with now is the burnt out house at the foot of Lily and adjacent to the freeway. How is it possible the rubble has been sitting for a year with no pressure by the City to clean it up?

There has been also been discussion on a few projects in the area but the Duncan / Waterfront site needs to move forward first. It has been siting for 5 years but hopefully will move with the completion of The Bend.

Which property do you mean by the "Duncan / Waterfront site?"

The Duncan arena site is owned by the same people doing the bend (the black metal cladding thing). They were developing both properties IIRC.

There is also a small sliver of property along Waterfront next to the Duncan site. Anything happening with that?
