I know some will pooh-pooh this and say that what we need residents and not suburbanites driving their cars in, and that holds some truth. But we can't wait 40 years for downtown residential to materialize to get to a point where Winnipeg can just dismiss people who drive cars. You have to do something to make it easier and more enticing now. Constantly jacking up parking rates as if the suburbs and WFH didn't exist is just dumb. Nothing makes me more of a WFH enthusiast than $17/day parking.
Makes me wonder what the business case is for the st Regis parkade tower.

They are working on it every day. They had some serious issues with the foundations of the old buildings on each side. Among other things they had to build concrete buttresses to reinforce them. This has slowed them significantly.

At least they caught it before they collapsed like the one on princess.

Has there been any visible action on that front?

Totally different situation in this case. At Princess the backfill remained against the foundation and the interior basement slab was removed, resulting in the failure.

On this project the existing building basements are being left intact and the they are excavating from the exterior - permanently relieving pressure from the exterior of the walls, and actually helping the structure of the foundation walls moving forward.

And in this case they already knew one of the buildings had serious structural issues (above grade) before they even started.

It looks like they are building an above ground walkway connecting the new and old buildings in the last photo.

That's not true, just a new play on the standard conservative myth of the welfare queen. I live nearby on Waterfront. Water bottles on hot days are all I have seen. Shelters nearby have meals, it wouldn't make sense to cater.

You are incorrect …

Coffee, drinks, sandwiches and treats are delivered twice a day into the encampment below Gomez.

Sorry I’m not conservative and it’s not a myth. I’m also not saying they shouldn’t attempt to provide some assistance to these people. I am saying there needs to be a better solution and outcome for those under sheltered in the area.

We provided the security video to law enforcement of the recent execution and incineration of an individual at the foot of Gomez. Absolutely brutal and disgusting.

The security video contributed to the quick identification and arrest of the accused.

The situation has never been this desperate.

This is all fact.

My “conservative” editorial comment is spend the 1,000,000,000.00 Keneston budget (that really is a lot of zeros) on housing and social welfare needs including transportation in and to the centre of our City. I really don’t care if it takes an individual with all the choices in the world another five or ten minutes to get to the airport or downtown.

My children’s children would be proud to contribute towards that investment in Winnipeg for the next 30 years.

Happy Canada Day.

Where abouts? Are you a contractor in Winnipeg? Just a bit confused because your "profile location" says Toronto.
