2023 Numbers are out. I swear, they seem to always push back the release of these numbers. Every year it gets later and later. Eventually we won't get numbers till a year later! /s

Had Swoop not been shuttered by WS, We would've been very close to breaking the 1M pax mark.

Think the issue this year was the City's cyber attack delayed all meetings by 2-3 months.

Interesting cargo went down. What happened there?

Westjet's Transborder is doing very well, much better than swoops. The kicker is that the flights on WS are noticeably more expensive too.

February Stats

Hamilton-Tampa: 91% [4136/4536]
Hamilton-Orlando: 92.7% [4558/4914]

If we see any reduction in transborder service next year, the blame has to be put on the airport authority. As of now, both routes are only loaded as a single weekly flight (down from 2-3x weekly), but it's still way to early for it to be finalized. The way the flights are scheduled right now, we'll continue to have an ex-swoop aircraft based in YHM next winter, so I'm interested to see how WS will schedule YHM alongside sunwing.

Courier companies in general are down the last year, air is an expensive premium that a lot of companies are foregoing in favour of truck. Cargojet has been cancelling 777 freighter orders and reducing its fleet for the last year.

Air Transat Unveils Its Winter 2024-2025 Flight Offer From Ontario

https://canadianaviationnews.ca/air-...tform=mailpoet

This confirms the rumor that Air Transat will not be back at YHM this winter. Apparently, they have a lot of aircraft out of service this winter due to heavy maintenance and have dropped lots of routes across the country. A source of mine said they were told that Air Transat’s rationale was that even though YHM flights are full, it is close enough to YYZ that people can just go there if they want to fly Air Transat.
London is only getting 2 routes. They had 4 flights last year. Once a week to Cancun and Punta Cana. Ottawa lost nothing. Only YHM lost everything!

Seems to be a common theme! We can fill planes no problem but airlines see it as too much hassle when they can offer the same product from YYZ…

Curious what WS/Sunwing will offer this winter with the upcoming merger. Quite a void that can be filled with transat gone.

YHM must be one of the most unluckiest airports in Canada.

Such is life for a city in the shadow of a behemoth.

There are the "bads" but also the "goods"

They really just need to start calling Toronto-Hamilton international Airport. Similar to London Gatwick or even Hamilton-Niagara International Airport. It's likely the only reason Play is successful as that's os how the advertise it.

Might make some business sense, but people arriving from abroad will probably feel tricked, and I think they already do.

Also, at some point, Hamilton will lose its identity as a separate standalone city if things go down that path. A bunch of the condo construction seems to advertise proximity to the GO stations, which is really all about access to Toronto. The "Toronto Rock" play in Hamilton. I would rather not see the place subsumed as just another suburb.

This would be a great debate, given that I am a local, I would be horrified to see our sovereignty overtaken by dastardly Toronto, but we have to get past that and embrace that we live next to the behemoth that is frankly charging our growth. If it made it more palatable for the airlines to offer up passenger routes, I am all for it. Would be unique for Canada, but I am sure Gatwick and Stansted communities are doing just fine with the revenues and spin off benefits that Heathrow overflow has provided.

Someone Toronto or Niagara need to be involved in the name. Nobody out side of Canada and maybe the states knows wher e Hamilton is. Toronto and Niagara Falls and know around the globe. Now that Downtown has some momentum I'm not so anti Toronto.

Newark isn't even in the same state let alone city and its advertised as New York Newark.

Heck YYZ is actually in Mississauga. It's marketing and lack on investment. Some people like the bus station feel but I think a lot of people like the big terminal experience as much as they might complain about it.

I wish for once an airline pulling out would just Plat out say its because lack of facilities. Not because of Fog(Westjet) maintenance (Air Transat)

Vantage should have just given Flair or Canada Jetlines exclusive domestic right to the airport.

We've all seen a route launched just to have Air Canada come in and under cut the competition forcing them out only to then pull their own service. They did that to Canjet to Ottawa and Montreal a while back.
