Use it or lose it. Turn it off for two years and it might not turn on again.

Could have been testing for the fountains as the multi year renovation and maintenance just wrapped up. Also the new fire fighters monument is under construction in the park.

Hopefully that one doesn't get pulled down.

By the looks of the last photo in this article the legion is renovating and planning to move into the old Pizza Hut beside Brazen Hall by the years end.

I like how 300 Main fills in the longstanding skyline gap between 360 Main and the Radisson.

The next thing on my skyline wish list is for something to make a dent in the skyline to the north of the Richardson Building.

Something where the Grain Exchange parkade is would probably do the trick.

I usually see 300 Main from the southwest where for the past month it has looked to be the tallest building, but 201 Portage still looks a bit taller in this photo.

I totally agree but...the rest to the north & east of Richardson Tower is The Exchange District which has height protection.. then the river. Baseball Park.....so not likely anything over 100 feet. I do hope the proposal I broke the news about a few months back becomes reality... for the 40 + floor residential on Smith St. Then some more on Graham going up to Garry St & Fort St.

Re: Memorial Park Fountain

It says ahead of Manitoba 150 celebrations. But that was last year already.

Memorial Park Fountain Restored for Manitoba 150 Celebrations

WINNIPEG — Extensive repairs have been completed on the Memorial Park fountain ahead of Manitoba 150 celebrations.

The province says the nearly 60-year-old fountain was refurbished at a cost of $3.7 million and water began flowing in it again this past week.

“This fountain is the centrepiece of the park, and has created memories and entertained Manitobans and visitors for decades,” said Legislative and Public Affairs Minister Kelvin Goertzen, in a statement.

Officially called the City Hydro Fountain, it was opened on September 28, 1962, to honour the 15th anniversary of the former Winnipeg Hydro. The structure was designed by architect Cameron Man.

I think they did a nice job on the fountain. I walked past on my way home from work the other evening and the fences were down and people were sitting around it. They got rid of that tacky blue paint which I always really disliked.

A bit more info from the Provincial release. Would've been nice to restore the fountain to it's original glory!

https://news.gov.mb.ca/news/?archive=&item=51697

The original water feature included a central mechanized fountain, which was state of the art for the time. It allowed the fountain to have sweeping waterscapes and light shows that alluded, in colour and movement, to the northern lights. In the late 1990s, the mechanized central fountain began malfunctioning, was found to be too costly to repair and was decommissioned.

^ That's a pretty substantial looking building. There are many gaps on south Pembina, but they sure are filling in quickly.

Good news! Definitely a nice filler although the renders definitely give off more of an office building vibe than a residential. Still nice though.

Wow. Turns out you can actually build a good-looking building in south Winnipeg! Wouldn't be able to tell it from some of these proposals (i.e. Legion site)

I’ve noticed a lot of development in the South Pembina area living down in Waverley West. SW Winnipeg is having an unprecedented amount of growth in this city and has become a very desirable place to live in Winnipeg. Even with all the development this feels like a precursor the massive University Housing project (whenever the hell that happens)

I wonder if the census will line up with the eye test.

Nice.
Looks light & airy. So sick of seeing charcoal prefab residential builds as of late.
Yes, it appears like more of an office building & looks professional.
Cut it in half, double or triple the height and we could use a few of these downtown for sure.
