Halifax transition from a medium Canadian city to a large Canadian city with it's rapid population growth and building boom and focus or good urban design is quite a sight to behold.

I had no idea you were in town! Now that is very cool. Looks like you covered a lot of ground too.

Nice pictures!

I was in Halifax last summer and see a lot of the places that I saw Downtown that you did. I had a couple beers at Durty Nelly's one night, among other places down the street (I think the Pint as well). I had a big lunch at Mary's African Cuisine as well.

I didn't leave Halifax, though, except to take the ferry to Dartmouth. How was it getting to Peggy's Cove?

Bearley's was a good choice!

Excellent photos - lots of great composition and you really captured the local attitude/personality very well. In particular:

The photos are great, thank you. The DT shots are mostly new to me as I am not within walking distance and have a disability as well so given HRM's war on motorized vehicles it is largely inaccessible now for me, which puts the lie to the "good urban design" comment someone else made.

I do find it odd how someone with an anti-car screed in their signature line took so many shots of interesting vehicles, but maybe that's just me.

Excellent presentation! You have really captured the essence of Halifax. Glad to see my favourite building represented in black & white. (The Dominion Public Building or Old Post Office on Bedford Row)

Sadly no public transit option and we didn't have a car... so expensive tour bus it is.

I like capturing colourful or unique cars juxtaposed in front of interesting buildings, that's all.

One nice thing about Halifax is that there are a lot of local architects that work on projects like this, and the city tends to be quite liberal and flexible as far as what can be developed or modified. This cuts both ways as sometimes things that should be preserved end up being modified or replaced, but it often works well and on balance over the years the city's definitely improving.
