Whoa, real throwback there with the mansard roofs. Huge site.

Such a huge improvement and will set a good example for how to fill in other sites in that area.

I hope some of those townhouses are for sale units. Would be nice to have some owner occupied opportunities.

I'm sure the owners at Waterfront Square are relieved.

I think it's fine. I walk along the water front a lot now and this lot has always struck me as a trash strewn gap in a smile. It's right between the casino and Waterfront Square.

Not everything needs to be a highrise. If the public trail looks the way it does in this render I'll be perfectly okay with it.

Just yesterday, the developers pulled a zoning permit to build some new stuff here, but what form it will take isn’t quite clear at this time. The zoning permit indicates that the unit count at the property will increase from 36 to 68 in a by-right development. The permit also shows that the project will take advantage of the moderate income bonus, but that bonus will only provide additional height and not additional density. This gives us a sense that the new units will arrive in the form of both apartments for rent and townhomes for sale, surely filling the vacant land on the south side of the property and perhaps also filling some of the space between the two existing buildings.

Has a developer bought the now demolished plots on the block of 1700 Walnut Street? I forgot about this, while it sucks such a prominent location was set afire, I can't imagine something isn't in the works here...?

These were burned down during the riots/looting last May? in 2020. The structures were deemed unsalvageable and ordered to be torn down by L&I. As of now, I haven't heard of any plans to replace these buildings.

They were ordered to rebuild them to their original state, which unfortunately I really don't see happening unless they're allowed to build a tower behind them or something. I'm expecting a situation like the Old City arson buildings where it'll be a hole for a long time, but hopefully I'm wrong.

I'm hopeful something goes on that site soon, but I agree that it will probably be a while until something is built.
