Just 30 more feet and we could have had another skyscraper. Like the clean design but if they could just add some type of 30' crown. O'well a tall high rise is better than nothing.

There is already a four story crown that holds the signage.

Yea, IMO they could have saved a ton of $ to use elsewhere and just closed it off to traffic and put a fresh asphalt layer and added some benches and planters and called it a day.

E.g. a permanent installation like the peach tree shared street project?

I have no specific ideas but I seem to remember that they are spending $10M on this project (including the transfer terminal). Seems like they could have saved a HUGE chuck of that and achieved >90% of the desired effect by using the lane as it was (repaved/repurposed/improved) instead of replacing all the infrastructure.

Here it is pre. Just remove the bolsters, cut the curb, ramp for elevation and add benches/planters/amenities.

Eh, the politicians have lasting friendships with the construction industry. Nothing keeps friendships strong like 10M contracts!

In all seriousness I generally agree, however the GWCA is actually completing (not generally associated with government) with other large facilities in Chicago, Las Vegas etc, so I’m sure this is an aim to make it more pedestrian friendly and elevate the whole experience here. With critical mass being reached in this area with centennial yards, the new stadium, etc., it seems worth it to me. This is small change compared to the other large projects going in.

Well the best they could do is landscaping given the monolithic surroundings. It will look better once the plants fill in and the trees have leaves on them. I agree it's not amazing but I will never complain about removing a street and replacing it with landscaping.

I've walked through there a few times, including when it was fairly crowded after an Atlanta United game, and I think it's great. It's high quality pedestrian infrastructure in a tourist/convention area. It provides a front plaza for the convention center, and the space truly feels meant for people now, rather than a big road between the arena/CNN and GWCC. I agree it needs more greenery, but keep in mind that in the photos above none of the trees have leaves yet.

The sublevel/first level floors look really weird. Hard to tell what's going on.

The views from inside the hotel are going to be stunning. The full "urban" Atlanta from the top floor. How many floors will it be? 40 or less?
