This one below of SkyTower's podium was taken during a tour of Phase 1 with the architects (HPA), shot from a balcony of the Phase 1 tower.

I still think this is going to overtake The One at some juncture.

Some breaking news... SkyTower proposed to be taller and Phase 3 is now also a super-tall:

Pinnacle One Yonge | 346.35m | 105s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini l u/c

A new application proposes to increase the heights of both SkyTower (from 95 storeys to 105 storeys) and the Future Phase 3 (from 80 storeys to 92 storeys) which would now become another super-tall:

1. SkyTower u/c: height to the top of the architectural parapet (per CTBUH) is 346.35 metres (taller than The One)

2. Phase 3 (pre-construction): height to the top of the architectural parapet (per CTBUH) is 306 metres.

If Pinnacle One Yonge is approved for the height increase it will be 0.6 meters taller than the Aon Center in Chicago.

Man, that area certainly looks very different...I remember when I was a kid, what it was like visiting T-Dot for school field trips, as well as occasionally for long weekend mini-vacations with my sister and parents, and the Toronto Star building, as well as the Westin being the only skyscrapers in that area south of what used to be brownfields and train yards. These new towers are just crazy...they are going to rival Chicago and NY...

In terms of height and density, when all is said and done, that zone will have changed the most of any in Toronto, which speaks volumes, because there are now skyscraper nodes hither and yon, in areas where there once were no highrises whatsoever, or just 1960s yellow-brown apartment buildings. I don't go downtown much, but I too recall how industrial and ugly that area was.

Below is a small version of one of Stephen Velasco's older future models (built, u/c in blue and proposed) (you can see the Westin Harbour Castle in the very bottom centre).

NOTE: Interesting coincidence(?) pointed out by an UT forum member: the new 346 metre height for SkyTower... is exactly the height of the main CN Tower observation level.

Hmmmm..

Great image from Stephen Velacaso showing approved and proposed height (increases) for SkyTower* and The One... with the CN Tower to scale in between:

steveve

*No longer just a super-tall according to the CTBUH criteria... but now is Super-Duper-Tall ;-).

346m? Damn, that's as tall as the AON Center in Chicago, which is about halfway up CN Tower's main pod!

Nice!

Some meaningless "floor count" ‘scraper trivia:

If SkyTower is approved @ 105 storeys - it would have the most floors in North America after Willis (Sears) in Chicago.

One World Trade Centre = 94 storeys
All the other recent super-talls in NYC - most floors = 98 storeys
The Empire State Building = 102 storeys (more like 90s or less (?) with a dozen tiny floors leading to the observation level).

Some thoughts on this new (uninspired) rendering of the taller SkyTower just released. See below:

Though I do miss the triangular “filgree” motif of the previous version, that was purely cosmetic not structural like The One’s angled hangers.

Given how well the fritted glass balcony glass turned out for Phase 1 here (though all the glass had to be completely replaced due to manufacturing defect lol ;-), I think the combination of curtain-wall and the fritted+transparent glass shapes of balconies for SkyTower will turn out very nicely… and this tower will look far better as constructed versus this fairly lame rendering.

Many times actual builds (materials etc.) fail to live up to their eye-candy renderings but on occasion the built result is better than those “artist impressions”.

I’m betting SkyTower will be one of those cases, especially given the quality(?) of the rendering. Podium looks improved too.

Yea, as far as 90+ goes you also have the John Hancock Center in Chicago with 100, Vista with 96 (or 101?) and Waldorf Astoria in Miami with 92.

What are the odds it'll be approved at this height? If both this and The One break 1,100 that would be a game changer.
