Woah where did that come from? Looks great!

Also the Bentham is the most pathetic project I can recall in all my years watching construction in Chicago. The developers should be banned from Chicago for ineptitude.

Is it safe to say the developer is planning on building the adjacent 6-7 story building from the original plan since the eastern side of the building is not wrapped in windows?????

I mean one would think this is the case because that side is prime real estate to capture views of the skyline.

BTW... I love the building. I've already seen local photographers posting photos of the cool "argyle striations."

Looks like it's going from about 245 feet to 425 feet. Different design. Quite a major height bump of +180 feet.

I wonder if they signed an anchor tenant that wants more space or they are betting on the Fulton Market office market that they basically created. I could see either being true.

It's hard to even tell because the previous version to my knowledge was shorter, but also fatter. It's possible it's similar in square footage.

Maybe they were having trouble selling offices with larger floorplates and shifted to making a taller building with smaller floorplates?

More of this, please

River North is getting a little less beige
Quote:
While downtown Chicago is world-famous for its innovative architecture, it's also home to dozens of similarly colored beige-painted concrete towers slapped up during the pre-recession condo boom. Now, one such example at 600 N. Dearborn is ditching its khaki color cladding for a cooler shade of blue-ish gray.

The 21-story, 161-unit condo building—officially known as The Farallon—was completed in 2001. While we don't know how many times the streaky facade has been cleaned since then, it wouldn't be surprising if the number was zero. The fresh paint color isn't a bold choice, but the makeover should disguise the grimy exterior and bring some variety to what is essentially a solid wall of beige River North towers.

^^^ If only we could divert the countless gallons of black and grey paint being applied to greystones by hipsters to painting one or two highrises in river north a year...

"Isn't a bold choice" may be the understatement of the year.

Live across the street from 600N Dearborn, will be interesting to see how it fits in from my balcony.

^^It's very unfortunate that they didn't go with a darker shade of the gray on the spandrel panels as it was originally painted... those little details can give some depth to such a disappointing building to begin with...

I think Presidential Towers may be undergoing something similar.

Painting these four bold colors or even every face a diffent bold color would actually turn these into a good design. Would look like test bars from the freeway.

According to Crains, the building is the same size, just taller and skinnier due to demand for smaller floor plates.
