They could always just ignore them, if they don't like high buildings there area always the suburbs.

I hope it's not much and it's still 5-550 feet.

If Burnett expands the skyscraper zone to across the street and I can sell my condo for a million dollars to a developer, ok I'll move. But 440 parking spots shouldn't even be considered. Its an absurd proposal. (I don't care about the height)

420 N. May Street - 575'

January 2024 Plan Commission Hearing

Quote:
A proposed Residential-Business Planned Development submitted by 420 N May Property, LLC for the property generally located at 420 N. May Street. The applicant is proposing to rezone the site from M2-3 Light Industry District to a DX-5 (Downtown Mixed-Use District) prior to establishing the planned development. The rezoning would allow the construction of a 575’ tall building with 587 dwelling units, ground floor retail uses, at grade landscape and open space area, and 440 accessory vehicular parking spaces with accessory and incidental uses. A 3.1 FAR bonus will be taken and the overall FAR of the planned development will be 8.1.

The number of residential units & parking spaces remain unchanged from the August public meeting.

Oh darn; they cut the height. Kinda expected I guess but at least it wasn’t a significant height cut

Sometimes Plan Commission lists the under-roof height rather than the roof height. We won't know for certain until the presentation is uploaded in 2 weeks

I can live with 575 feet (especially if as other have noted it's the "zoning height" and not the architectural height). Still the tallest in the area and will stand head and shoulders above its neighbors. This tower should have a massive skyline-extending effect, particularly when viewed from the north/northwest.

That was filed last year as the original proposal. After the community meeting and complaints about height from folks north of Hubbard, the alderman made the developers we-work the verticality.

Is it confirmed 575' is the height it was cut too or is that still unknown?

I'm still happy if it breaks 500.

The answer is likely yes, but there's no final certainty until the presentation for the Plan Commission is uploaded.

Presentation has been updated with no surprise: height cut. Top of penthouse is 575' compared to 615' in previous design. 587 units and 53 stories.

We thought there would be a day when we would point to 900 W Randolph and say "that was once the only skyscraper in this neighborhood" ... and that day might have already passed.

What are the group of buildings to the left of it that also look like renderings? Are they part of this project?
