because the south tower has yet to exist as anything other than a conceptual scheme up til this point in time.

when/if it ever becomes a real thing, it will be designed in earnest.

for now, the east tower has been designed and approved, and its construction start is anticipated any month now.

Neither does the East tower and it's still in the rendering

Thats because the East tower IS a thing. The rendering is OF the East tower. It's been approved, soil testing is taking place and groundbreaking is imminent.

I would love to see a supertall South tower as much as anybody else but them bananas ain't ripe yet.

Not to jump proposals but does the reid murdoch still have any fruition in the near future? Sorry to get off topic.

Obviously not economical, but wouldnt it be better functionaly for the site to at least put foundation for the south lot. I guess what im getting at is how much more money is it going to cost to get part three going after tower two is constructed? Its going to take two hella cranes and alot of barges right against the river. Not impossible, just much more complicated.
This is why i am not an engineer. Haha.

Why put in a foundation for something that's not designed?

FYI to all,

the wolf point south and east tower thread has now been split into two separate threads.

this thread is now exclusively for discussion and news of the proposed south tower.

all east tower discussion and news should now go in the east tower thread: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=228891

I like the south tower. I hope it gets at least one more refinement, though.

Evolution of the Designs

I like the direction this is taking. I REALLY like that a main stepback on WPS might align with WPE. Also, it looks like there will be about 24 floors above the stepback plus the crown, so approximately 300 additional feet above WPE, which would put it at just about 980-1,000 feet tall. Awesome.

I agree that good things are happening at WP, especially the design of the buildings. However, if the garage at WPE is truly 6 levels, traffic (cabs, Uber, cars, bikes and pedestrians) will be very congested on the WP peninsula.

Unless there is plenty of access allowed from Kinzie and, eventually, from a pedestrian and bike bridge over (or a tunnel under) the Chicago River from the RiverWalk on the south side to WP on the north side, I just don't see WPS being as tall as you do..

So what's your solution? More parking or less?

I'm sorry, but this statement makes zero sense to me. You can easily walk or bike across the Franklin/Orleans bridge from the Riverwalk over to Wolf Point right now. It's already connected. All of this is being built within 2 blocks of a major L stop (Merchandise Mart) and another 4-5 blocks to practically every other L line in the city. And what does that have to do with the height of the tower there? The tower will be as tall as they make it.

...and Riverside/Hughes left WP out of its renderings of 110 N. Wacker.
