We got floor counts for two new towers today that are part of the same project. One will be 42-stories and the other one 55-stories. The 55-story tower will give Austin at least 13 600+ footers U/C and waiting for approval.

Other than Wiliams Tower, which builiding in Uptown is 600+?

San Felipe Plaza. It's a 625 foot, 45-story office tower.

Oh yeah....it's sort of away from the denser part. I actually attended a conference in that building years ago.

The 37-floor downtown Austin apartment tower planned for the corner of East Fifth and Red River Streets by local real estate developer Stonelake Capital Partners heads to the City of Austin’s Design Commission for a review of its density bonus application on Monday next week — but since we try our best to stay on the ball around here for the sake of our beloved readers, we’ve got an early look at the tower for you, which at the moment is going by the working name 5th + Red River.

The old Carmelo’s building — originally built as a boarding house in 1872 and known on its historical marker as the Old Depot Hotel — will be restored with the help of local preservation firm O’Connell Architecture for use as a retail space adjacent to the new tower, with the new construction mostly rising from the area now occupied by the site’s parking lot. It’s nearly an ideal scenario for infill development, preserving a historic downtown structure while bringing 242 new residences to market.

Herzog & de Meuron Reveals Design for Mass-Timber Mixed-Use Development in Austin

Herzog & de Meuron has pulled back the curtain on Sixth & Blanco, a mixed-use infill development encompassing an entire city block in Austin’s historic Clarksville neighborhood, just west of the Texas capital city’s downtown core.

The low-slung mass-timber project features an “urban carpet” of restaurants and retail at street level topped by offices, a hotel, and apartments on the third and fourth floors, which “steps back from the street and decreases in density as it grows taller, allowing for a network of exterior circulation spaces with gardens, courtyards and porches on all levels,” the firm detailed. As recently released renderings show, the wood-clad structure (technically a cluster of breezeway-separated buildings oriented around a central plaza and multiple internal courtyards) doesn’t so much insert itself into streetscape but but politely slinks behind it, rising behind and above existing homes and storefronts fronting West 6th Street in deference to the historic fabric of Clarksville.

Word floating around in the Austin sub-forum that a supertall taller than 98 Red River is proposed. This comes from two different users. It is said to be presented to the design commission in late September with a 3Q 2023 start date, 4 year construction timeline.

No word on location. My guess would be 3rd and Congress, what’s being planned there is rumored to be a super tall.

Edit: Going through the discussion again it may be 410 East 5th- currently proposed at 54 floors but is said to be “drastically updated.”
