From the Inky today

Quote:
Drexel University and its real estate partner last month broke ground on the first major development that is part of a $3.5 billion innovation neighborhood in University City.

At Drexel, he partnered with Brandywine Realty Trust to launch the multibillion dollar project to turn parking lots and industrial buildings between Drexel’s campus and 30th Street Station into a neighborhood of businesses, retailers, parks, and residential towers, called Schuylkill Yards. Construction recently began on the West Tower, which will include residential units, office space and retail.

Let’s go

I’m super excited for this project as the first real Schuylkill Yards project. I think for its size Philadelphia really doesn’t have the skyline for that size. When I become mayor I will make the city the best the the US. It’s nice to see the skyline expand, and with the 650” footer next to the other building we will really start to see that. But besides uni. City, where to do guys think the skyline will develop next? Because on google earth I don’t see too many opportunities for construction without the demolition of other present buildings. Thanks!

Your right and wrong quite honestly. The new trend seems to be overbuilds but regardless theres open space around the parkway (Pending how its re developed in the future) plent of parking around the riverwalk and yards to be developed too. Eventually the railyards will most likely be capped but whats built ontop is a question. Philly has a large downtown by most standards. and i dont see its growth stopping anytime soon

Does this count as U/C yet? Wasn't able to get pictures last time I was by the site but I'm 60% sure they were drilling caissons.

I have one question, regarding the red tower, if they cant find a tenant, or a large enough one. Is it possible to convert part of the building to lab and/or apartment space? Both sectors appear to be doing really well, and i find it curious they arent throwing around that possibility.

Someone get a photo! If they are installing caissons this is definitely under construction.

I see potential in University City and the Callowhill region as well as Chinatown North; between Callowhill and Spring Garden from from Broad to the Delaware but time will tell.

If you're referring to Big Red, it'll likely be Deschert.

Other than that I've heard nothing.
