If it weren't for such a pursuit for taller and bigger buildings, we'd all still be going bonkers over the Flatiron Building and would have a city without the hundreds of existing skyscrapers for the sake of not wanting to top a building that's 100+ years old
"No king rules forever". Sooner or later, even the likes of One Vanderbilt and 1WTC would have to look up to future "megatalls". Until that time comes, let's enjoy things for what they are, not for what they aren't

All true. It's the "spirit" of the Empire State Building that the city needs. These days, people are up in arms over 500 ft buildings. When the ESB was built, it was so much taller than any skyscraper that had been built at the time, and dwarfed everything. The way the skyline is shaping up, it's time to push to new heights. But in the meantime, I'll take a few 270s!
