Sure. . . now it's likely not to be completed, but that has more to do with the political purge that's been going on over the last few years. . .

I'm familiar with that concept, but it's not merely a vanity structure in the middle of the desert. . .

Maybe they could open a new branch of the Ryugyong Hotel here?

An article from yesterday, titled Why the 'tallest tower in the world' has ground to an abrupt halt:

Post When will the Jeddah Tower be completed? A question yet to be answered in 2023

Maybe in Dubai, Hong Kong, Chicago or NYC which would still look silly but yay, looking forward to see if/when this gets complete and sits empty like over half of Dubai or China's ghost cities.

At this point, the answer to when the Jeddah Tower is complete is anybody’s guess. With numerous hurdles ranging from political instability to economic woes and even environmental concerns, the fate of this Tower remains clouded in uncertainty.

It would look absurdly massive in NYC or Chicago, though would fit in not too badly in Dubai, Shanghai or Shenzhen. Hong Kong's mountains might help partially obscure its monstrosity.

Certainly would fit in terms of scale and architectural style foremost in Dubai. Shanghai would work too but the major cluster in its CBD are all of different styles.. this being Neo-futurism aka Blade Runner Esq.

The company formed to build the kilometre-high Jeddah Tower in the Saudi city of Jeddah has restarted work on the scheme and has drawn up a list of contractors who may complete the structure.

How long would the process of finding a new contractor take? And how much longer after that would it take for activity to start again?

'The contractors have been given three months to form joint ventures and to prepare their bids. Each team is expected to include at least one local and one international company.

The tower was designed by US architect Adrian Smith, who also designed the Burj Khalifa, currently the world’s tallest building.'

Props to their ambition, wonder if they'll pull it off this time.

Looking at this thing next to the Sears Tower is insane, Chicago could really use a building like the Chicago Spire or at the very least the new Tribune East Tower.

I'm glad NY is likely (hopefully) building 175 Park Avenue.

Was kinda hoping that during all this time at least the city around it would have been built up. Did all of that go on hold too?

Even though almost 6 years passed, I’m amazed how Jeddah Tower had its first glass panels still standing there without even falling off.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe the area is tied to the tower ?

From what I recall, it is all one massive development with the tower as its centerpiece. If it does restart, it will be interesting to see if the structures around it also restart.
