Thanks. Is that the only difference? If so, it looks amazing. In fact, I prefer 2 fewer columns on each side as there will be more glass and transparency.

The fifth tower in the lineup is Baccarat Hotel, on 53rd St.

The others are various international proposals (two of them failed competitions) - in Dubai, Korea, and China, respectively.

I'll be happy if it tops Central Park Tower.

It has too quite frankly and with the best base of any tower in the city it deserves to be even taller.

While I agree that since we already know it's going to be extremely tall, the design matters more but of course us skyscraper nerds are going to fixate on height superlatives too.

It'd be disappointing if it were shorter than the Central Park Tower (i.e. not tall enough to be a signature tower in its surroundings).

^ Well, you have a long way to go before you can even jump to that conclusion, so its silly to worry about that now.

The closer we get to the new year, the closer we get to this baby closing, and the fun beginning...

This drab site will be replaced by the most iconic building in NY. I’m extremely eager for this garbage to come down.

I don’t think that a closing date for this eyesore has even been set yet. I can’t imagine that demolition will take more than 9 to 12 months. This eyesore isn’t very tall.

The developers have a targeted opening date of 2029 for 175 Park. The demo itself will be of an extended time due to the method and nature of the site. That's not really a lot of time considering everything.

Press release from Hyatt...

https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/ne...gh/news-events

Quote:
RXR Realty and TF Cornerstone plan to redevelop the property, creating an iconic 2+-million-square-foot mixed-use development, including a new luxury hotel, world-class office and retail space, new public open space and dramatic improvements to the public transportation infrastructure in the Grand Central Terminal transit complex. At this time, the hotel would close for such redevelopment no earlier than 2023.

I hope that it happens in early 2023, and not in November or December of 2023.

I wonder if we are looking at a year and a half for demo. Hopefully the actual tower will rise in a fashion like 1 Vandy, which rose very quickly all things considering. I feel like the demo will take the longest and foundation. Complexity in that respects; plus its going to make traffic in the area horrendous.

But yes, to JM's comments, early 2023 would be ideal. Slower period Q1 2023, versus the Fall.

Demo itself is supposed to be about 18 months. Covid closed the hotel earlier than anticipated, but the city’s rules forced it back open, at least partially.

We could be looking at demo as we speak were that not the case.

Fascinating that they will be building the foundation for the new tower (and the platform over the Lex subway) while the Hyatt/Commodore building is being demolished above.

Talk about a ship in a bottle!

That way the steel can start going vertical just 3 months after demo is finished.

Very similar to what went on with the construction/foundation of 270 Park Avenue.

So will this be like 270 such that once the building is taken down to street level, there will be no need to build a new foundation and instead, the structure can just start rising? That seems to have saved a lot of time at 270.
