In phase 1 there are going to be 3 buildings; a 36s, 45s and a 36s. The date for the 36s building per below has yet to be confirmed but they are going to build the podium portion.

The 36s on the left

The 36s on the right

When do they plan to give the mall the "Elevate lofts @ The Village" treatment or something like that? i.e. I'd have to imagine that a total mixed-use redesign of square 1 is in the works.

Or maybe that's just my crazy American mind that can't wrap itself around 40 story towers surrounding a classic exurban shopping mall.

Almost all malls here have residential towers adjacent and/or across the street. Sometimes they surround the mall on every side:

Scarborough Town Centre, Toronto:

South Common Mall, Mississauga

Shoppers World, Brampton

Sherway Gardens, Toronto

Sheridan Mall, Mississauga

Erin Mills Town Centre, Mississauga

Fairview Mall, Toronto

Bayview Village, Toronto

Bramalea City Centre, Brampton
