Those stations look great and I can't wait until all subway stops on the Red and Purple line also have the turnstiles. I think the city could be losing so much money the way the subways are operated now.

Yes, but they lack the conventional ticket slots. The MTA and Metrolink are developing tickets that can be scanned by the turnstiles.

Itll cost the city more money to operate (and install) these than they were losing in evasion. Its the biggestw aste of money ever, and is an obvious win by the lobbyist representing the company that sells the damn things.

The Gold Line Eastside Extension II will officially be narrowed down to two alternatives at the upcoming Board meeting next week. The remaining two options are State Route 60 and Washington Boulevard. Thank you to Wright Concept for directing me to this link...

Let's hope that they don't choose the SR60 route; LRT is far more effective if it runs along streets.

Thanks for posting that. This increases the possibility of extending the Purple Line.

Even if it hits the max 55 or so that's still nowhere near fast enough to compete with freeway traffic apart from rush hours. LRT should really act as a low-capacity feeder to heavy rail, which in turn feeds to commuter and high-speed rail. The latter three can work in freeway medians, as shown by the Orange Line in DC.

The Washington Boulevard option, the likelier of the two alternatives, would be a 100% grade-separated aerial alignment. IMO, that's the only saving grace to this otherwise horrible route (both suck).

This makes no sense. How can you compare the speed of building the Gold Line with the Purple Line? That's like comparing the time to build the I-5 carpool lanes to the Orange Line busway. Two mutually exclusive projects.

I hadn't had a chance to examine those links until recently. It looks like they plan on taking 35% of the revenue generated each fiscal year, as the document assumes there will only be enough Measure R money (and subsequent New Starts funds) for MOS 1. So they plan on using bonds, eh? That was always the plan, no?

At $5 Million per year, it only takes 20 years to save $100 Million.
Too many people making that argument it doesn't pay for itself think it must do so in just one year, not over decades......
