Wow, that sure gives a different angle of the skyline from that time. It really also shows that people who say "omg that building is too big" need to shut the f up, look at how JHC, AON, and Sears are all 4x's as tall as anything around them...
The Reliance Building is the first skyscraper to have large plate glass windows make up the majority of its surface area, foreshadowing a feature of skyscrapers that would become dominant in the 20th century. It is located at 20 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois, and as of 2006 houses the Hotel Burnham. The Reliance building joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and on January 7, 1976, it was designated a National Historic Landmark.
Well, actually, no. It is the same building with the 6 easternmost window bays lopped off for the construction of the Oriental in the '20's. It is now only 6 bays wide on Randolph (not counting the beveled corner). btw, the building is on the northeast cornerof Dearborn & Randolph, not the northwest as the caption states - - which is a surprising error considering the photo source.

still exists after all these years.
And great that is was just landmarked, but unfortunately the dump of a vacant useless theater next door was landmarked too, presumably to grace the neighborhood with blight for years to come due to there being no viable economic re-use. Check out the nice quaint 3 story building where the shitbox Michael's North restaurant is now, too. Between that and the theater, what a prime redevelopment site...
