Call this one a "Found Video"

from 1942, in color. Too many good highlights to list - and a few locations I can't quite place for the life of me.

Yea, I saw that awhile ago. Good stuff, huh? It's great to see those old neighborhoods in color.

Wow, that sure gives a different angle of the skyline from that time. It really also shows that people who say "omg that building is too big" need to shut the f up, look at how JHC, AON, and Sears are all 4x's as tall as anything around them...

unknown: found in a scrapbook

This picture should be much larger.
I'm trying to figure out webshots ( I recently joined)

In the past I've used imageshack.....even without a membership they hosted much larger images.
Hmmmm....am I doing something wrong??

Ryan, amazing series of the old time city! Wow, I had forgotten the Wrigley "Tower" once stood solo before the addition. Bravo!

Wow what a set. A whole 1.5 bucks to Muskegun ,what a rip

Too bad about the Iroquois Theater disaster though.

The Reliance Building, just wow!

GD I love that building.

Look at her friends now.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reliance_Building

The Reliance Building is the first skyscraper to have large plate glass windows make up the majority of its surface area, foreshadowing a feature of skyscrapers that would become dominant in the 20th century. It is located at 20 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois, and as of 2006 houses the Hotel Burnham. The Reliance building joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and on January 7, 1976, it was designated a National Historic Landmark.

Wow, I never knew that this building today is only the corner of that picture above. Looks like at least several bays of windows were demoed.

Well, actually, no. It is the same building with the 6 easternmost window bays lopped off for the construction of the Oriental in the '20's. It is now only 6 bays wide on Randolph (not counting the beveled corner). btw, the building is on the northeast cornerof Dearborn & Randolph, not the northwest as the caption states - - which is a surprising error considering the photo source.

Stunning photopgraphs.
I love it when the scans are so huge.

It's great that the Germania Club Building (4th photo from the bottom)
still exists after all these years.

And great that is was just landmarked, but unfortunately the dump of a vacant useless theater next door was landmarked too, presumably to grace the neighborhood with blight for years to come due to there being no viable economic re-use. Check out the nice quaint 3 story building where the shitbox Michael's North restaurant is now, too. Between that and the theater, what a prime redevelopment site...
