Amtrack got its money in the infrastructure bill and work is already moving to bring Amtrak between Phoenix and Tucson:

They've already approved funds to rebuild the Yuma Amtrak station: https://azbex.com/yuma-gets-10-6m-gr...ation-project/

Rendering (How it looks now might as well be a train station in Iraq) :

Amtrak estimates bringing the line will take three years before operational, most of that would be stations and right of way, the rail is already in place. This will also help get the area prepped for HSR which is in the "indefinite planning" stages route approved with no money and no timeline.

The plan calls for three round trips a day, 2.5 hours phoenix to Tucson (a little longer than driving not counting traffic and future congestion)

Round Trip route

Western Regional Plan

I would add the second phase of the Valley Line LRT in Edmonton. It's 14 kilometers long. https://www.edmonton.ca/projects_pla...lley-line-west

That's interesting, most of it largely has the character of a commuter rail line. Are frequencies planned to allow for commuting? (or is some other authority going to provide commuter service?).

There are indefinite plans for a future commuter rail largely on the same set of tracks, Amtrak is planning three trips a day from Tucson-Buckeye and back

Outside of People trying to commute to Tempe/Phoenix from Coolidge or Buckeye I don't think it will be often enough for mainstream commuter traffic.

But much of the cost to build a future commuter rail will be done by Amtrak making the general commuter plans more affordable from the states perspective.

The yellow alternative was selected for future build (overlays the Amtrak plans)

Alright that's exciting, adding
Toronto's Ontario Line as a 10 miles (16 km) metro line,
Toronto's Eglinton West extension as 6 miles (9km) LRT,
Edmonton's Valley West as 17 mile (27 km) LRT.

Not adding Amtrak plans to the list yet because funded ≠ under construction.

If I were you, I'd add the Scarborough Subway Extension, instead of the Ontario Line. The construction for the Ontario Line hasn't started; the work is mostly GO related. Meanwhile, the TBM for the Scarborough extension is already being shipped to Toronto.

Scarborough was already on the list.

Need further clarification on what to do about the Ontario line. What does "it's mostly GO related" actually mean?

I assume he means that there is work on the surface rail sections where the Ontario Line will run parallel to GO (~2.75km in the east and ~.75km in the west) and that the work isn't directly on the OL trackage.

Not sure why this isn't included but MBTA's South Coast Rail Project (extending to south coast cities of New Bedford and Fall River) is under construction. https://www.mbta.com/projects/south-coast-rail

I appears that Toronto has been on a rail building binge for a decade or more.

What is the proposed "final" rail system gonna look like, its gotta be really impressive?

Toronto is roughly doubling it's subway network right now.

The future subway map will look something like this:

https://dailyhive.com/toronto/toront...maps-2023-2031

But there are more projects than that, as it doesn't include Mississauga's LRT or the GO transit network which is in itself expanding massively.

This is what the subway map looked like between 2002 and 2017, before the first of the new expansions opened, for comparison:

Today was the partial opening of one of two branches of the MBTA's green line extension. It was the Somerville branch opening today, while the Medford branch is expected to open at some point this year (maybe summer).

Boston Globe: Decades in the making, Green Line Extension to Somerville’s Union Square finally opens for passengers

Quote:
It was 2004. Around 300 people filled a State House auditorium fired up and furious about the stalled Green Line Extension project to Somerville and Medford. It had been promised since 1990 and no shovels had yet hit the ground.

Then-Mayor Joseph Curtatone of Somerville demanded the state keep its end of the bargain. “A deal is a deal,” he told lawmakers.

Thirty-two years after the state first promised to extend the Green Line and 18 years after that hearing, the first trolley car full of passengers rolled down the tracks from the new Union Square station in Somerville just before 5 a.m.

Curtatone was onboard.

“This only happened because an entire city demanded that the state and federal governments honor their commitments,” he said. “We had to fight like hell.”

I don't see anything on the front page regarding the LA Regional Connector which is a 1.9 mile light rail subway line almost complete in downtown LA. It will have 3 news stops and will be open this fall.

PA: Planning continues to reestablish Philly train service to West Chester

Quote:
The committee's plan to establish the West Chester Metro was presented to council by Tom Hickey. Instead of an estimated price tag of $379.8 million, or what one SEPTA official said would cost more than $500 million, Hickey pitched the use of battery powered shuttle trains, with an initial capital expense of $16.4 million. Commuter trains might travel 38 times each weekday between West Chester and Wawa in the existing SEPTA right of way.
