That light colored ceiling in the blow thru floor. Does anyone think they might eventually paint it darker? It looks so strange.

Also im sure its been discussed on this thread endlessly...but what about some type of material that the air can still pass thru. It looks like they just stopped working right before they put up the walls.

I still think the blow-through would be the perfect location for a St. Regis marquee or logo!

Amazing shot^. One of the few angles that I have seen successfully capture just about all the major towers downtown. And from this angle St.Regis’ louvers (henceforward, “bands”) compliment the bands around Sears, Nema, tRump and even the top band of Hancock. If Regis had been designed with this look in mind I suspect many might not find the bands so objectionable - particularly if they were a little more symmetrical. That said, as it stands, count me in the group that truly appreciates what St.Regis adds to our skyline - bands and all.

It is a beautiful, sleek, sexy tower - despite a few pimples here and there.

The form of this tower is appealing, but the execution is terrible. The Trump in the above photo shows how to make mechanical elements seamless parts of the building. There are countless towers here in NY that have the mechanical elements piled on top as a naked afterthought. This strikes me as something in that vein--perhaps it is better in person?

A comparison with Sears Tower in the above photo confirms that St. Regis could have done a much better job: both are asymmetrical buildings with asymmetrical dark bands, but the bands look far worse on St. Regis partly because they are juxtaposed with light colored glass, making them more conspicuous. Wasn't glass installation seriously delayed, by almost a year? The Gang architects could have spent that extra time identifying darker glass that would help camouflage the vents. I am sure by then they already knew that those visually disruptive vents would have to be added to the design.

Crain's has some interesting facts and figures regarding the rate of condo sales at St. Regis and Trib.
