Green Day is still a good catch but part of me is still puzzled as to why we so often have American acts headlining at the Grey Cup.

Potential to draw viewers in the U.S.

The Grey Cup isn't being broadcast by an American network this year (link opens a PDF of the broadcast schedule)... yet. Maybe Randy is working on it.

What other big name Canadian artist is there? Other than Drake, who would just laugh at the thought of playing a CFL half time show, like his lack of respect for the Junos.

I say get the biggest or names possible, regardless of nationality

There's not many modern Canadian performers with massive cross over appeal. Shania is in her 50s. Bryan Adams is washed up. Maybe Drake and the weekend but that's about it.

I agree, the whole point of The Grey Cup is to celebrate Canadiana. I don't have an issue with occasionally having a US group but as I said there should be some kind of connection.

First time? In terms of appeal it used to be almost every time. Those were the days when the Grey Cup was usually the best game of the year and the Super Bore was just that.

This is a nice get for the Grey Cup halftime show. It is certainly better than last year's joke in Saskatchewan featuring bar bands with the headliner being one-half of a band who broke up 10 years ago. That guy has trouble selling out the 1500 seat Burton Cummings Theatre. It was probably the worst halftime show (star power-wise) since the 1998 Grey Cup featuring Chris Sheppard.

Green Day is definitely bigger than Usher. Green Day was playing baseball stadiums in front of 30,000+ people during their last tour

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hella_Mega_Tour

While Usher's last tour (8 years ago!) was playing in front of crowds of 3,000 people in Glasgow and 5,000 and 6,000 people (in 20,000 seat arenas).

CFL wins again!!

I prefer Green Day, but the numbers you just said are objectively false. The link you shared literally proves yourself wrong.

He was playing Air Canada Centre, Madison Square Garden, Staples Centre, etc.

Green Day is okay. American as people have said.

It's odd that The Weeknd hasn't been hit up for this, or maybe he has and declined. Last four records hit #1 in both the US and Canada and Blinding Lights and Starboy are up there as the biggest songs ever released by a Canadian on the world stage. I'd like to see him for a halftime show.

Roughriders legendary running back George Reed passed away. Over 16,000 yards and still holds league record for rushing tds at 134. Settled down in Regina after retirement and became a Canadian citizen and cflpa president.

Look at the attendance of Usher's shows listed vs. the attendance of Green Day's shows. Usher's shows, in many cases did not sell out and in some cases he couldn't even draw more than 6,000. His concert grosses were a fraction of Green Day's

That was crazy - I had no idea such a “punt” rule existed to get a first down. I thought the same as you when I saw it (i.e. why hasn’t this been tried more often?).

In other news …. it’s become comical how the Stamps cannot get in the endzone. In fact they didn’t even come close on Saturday in Hamilton and had to rely (as usual) on Rene Paredes field goal attempts.

Stampeders might still get last playoff spot in west with roughriders collapse.

This is the closest thing related to a NFL thread so let me just say this.

The San Francisco 49ers are the best football team on the planet right now and I don’t think it’s really even close. Being a Bombers and 49ers fan has been an absolute blast these last few years.

49ers are destroying folks, but Miami is maybe more fun to watch and also very, very good.

We may also want to pay attention to Phily.

As a Ticat and Raiders fan, the last few years have been horrendous

But I agree, 49ers are SCARY. Miami is more fun to watch but I think San Fran is more well rounded and give a tougher game. I easily have them as SB favourite (contingent on injuries). Was also nice to see Dallas get put in their place
