Wow! That's awesome! So the motorman is still in the cab in case of malfunction/emergency, or is it like Meteor?

Good question but I cannot answer because I don't know.

The western extention is not only a big tunnel between Saint Lazare and La Défense.
After La Défense, the line will use existing track to Mantes la Jolie.
The central tunnel will emerge near Nanterre la Folie, today a freight and service station.

This is Nanterre la Folie station.
By 2020 a RER station will located here and the area around will be redeveloped with residential and office buildings, a big arena...

These tracks are currently not used by passagers train, this will change with the RER E.

After Nanterre La Folie, the line will remplace the groupe V (Paris Saint Lazare - Mantes la Jolie by Poissy)

I was quite impressed with the mass transit in Paris during my trip this past July. Came into Paris from Lille, Via TGV and Gare du Nord, thence onto the subway and RER.

€32·4bn to fund Grand Paris automated metro
27 January 2011

FRANCE: Minister for Cities Maurice Leroy and President of Ile-de-France Jean-Paul Huchon announced on January 26 that they had reached ‘an historic agreement’ about the future development of public transport in Greater Paris.

Between 2010 and 2025 no less than €32·4bn will be invested to build an automated metro around Paris and to modernise the existing network. The majority of this funding will be contributed by the state (€9·75bn), the region, local départements and STIF (€11·2bn) and local property taxes (€9·2bn). A further €5·5bn will be spent on acquiring and modernising rolling stock.

The proposed metro combines common elements of the Arc Express and Grand Paris project proposals put out for public consultation over the past few months.

An inner circle line would run from La Défense east to Saint-Denis Pleyel and Bobigny then head south via Val de Fontenay to St Maur. The southern section will run through Villejuif and Châtillon-Montrouge to Saint-Cloud Transilien and back to La Défense.

An eastern outer ring would link Le Bourget to Champigny-le-Plant via Clichy-Montfermeil and Noisy-Champs, while Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport would be served by a branch from Le Bourget. Line 14 would be extended north to Saint-Denis Pleyel and south to Orly Airport. However the national and regional governments have not yet reached agreement on a route to serve the Saclay area.

Funding worth €11·9bn has been allocated to existing upgrading and expansion projects, including the western extension of RER Line E to Mantes-La-Jolie via La Défense (€2·5bn), improvements to RER lines C and D (€1bn), and the extension of metro Line 14 to Mairie de Saint-Ouen to relieve congestion on Line 13 (€1bn). A number of projects are to be completed by 2020, notably the Tangentielle Nord and Massy – Evry tram-train routes and the extension of tram line T3 to Porte d’Asnières.

Following the announcement, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport & Housing, confirmed that the government would release €1·08bn between 2010 and 2013 to accelerate key urban rail improvement projects in Paris, subject to an agreement with the regional council about the works to be implemented.

A Grander Paris Through a Rapid Circumferential Metro

French national government and Paris region officials agree to more than €30 billion in transit improvements by 2025.

From an international perspective, there are two really significant things about the newly approved plans for a radial rapid transit system around the French capital: First, its primary service area will be in the suburbs rather than in the center city; second, it will prioritize very fast transit times over local area connectivity.

These characteristics make last week’s agreement by regional and national officials to construct the Grand Paris Express network of rapid transit lines a truly significant pattern break in thinking about how to engage in the creation of better public transportation systems. Will this €22.7 billion ($31 billion) transit line, in connection with €12 billion in upgrades to the existing system, make Paris a model for local mobility? Or does it represent poor decision-making on the part of French authorities?

The agreement will require €9 billion in contributions from the state, €9 billion from the region and other local governments, €7 billion from new taxes mostly derived from tax-increment financing around station areas, and €7 billion from debt. It comes after years of political debate over how to better serve Paris’ near suburbs — and at the end of a series of public meetings on the question which will come to an end on Monday. Two proposals have been put forward: Regional authorities have been pushing what they call the Arc Express, a 37-mile route that would run a tight circle around the city and serve 50 stations or so; the national government, on the other hand, argued for its Métro Grand Paris, a 96-mile extension of the Metro Line 14 serving airports and far-off suburbs with only about 40 stations. To make matters even more complicated, a group of architects even submitted a counter-proposal.
....etc...

A new station with automatic platform gates.

Saint Lazare

See how tall are these doors in Paris unlike in Asian cities where those are smaller.

How have Parisians responded to the platform gates? It IS is major change to have this enclosure, a room essentially crreated, where as before one just felt a much larger space and could view the tracks and the opposite side of the station - people watch. Do they not feel claustrophobic? Seems unfortunate they could not have been designed of acrylic making them clear and less of a confining presence. Does RATP plan platform gates for every Metro station? What is the cost of such an endeavor?

The crowded platform feel much safer with these doors, we no longer afraid of falling on the tracks.

Platform door on the line 1.

Of the 25 stations on the line 1.
-22 stations done (88%)
-3 stations where the installation began or planned in short-term
Nation
Bastille
Charles de Gaulle Etoile

The installation is half way in Nation and some planels are installated in Bastille.

Nation

Blue blinking lights to notice the gap,

Condorde has the same with "mind the gap" message.
