Of course if they dropped the "The" then you could look at the name as being an adjective (definition: sound and usable but not of top quality). This actually makes more sense lol.

It's always confused me b/c The Standard is a world famous hotel brand. It'd be like naming a new building The Waldorf - but without any association whatsoever with the existing entity.

Honestly i love the density, the new units, the location is a little iffy to me, I've heard the underside of the double decker streets can get a little fishy, but hopefully this spurs more development in the area.

My main issue is the design, there's a lovely mural there and I wish they would shorten the length of the tower and have it climb another 100-150ft

A new museum set to join the Franklin Institute on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will receive [$5 million] in RACP funding as it enters the second phase of its construction. The new building will display the works of sculptor Alexander Calder on a 1.8-acre plot of land just off the parkway. The museum will showcase Calder's works inside a proposed 15,000-square-foot building as well as on the grounds outside.
Is anyone here a Calder fan? This isn't a judgment and I'm not looking for an explanation. I'm just wondering if this is really a legitimate use of this space.

Not sure if I'm a fan per se, but he seems well respected.

When it comes down to it I don't think it matters. 15,000 sqft is small and I don't think the Parkway is in danger of running out of plots for future museums. And I do think that several, smaller niche art museums can potentially create synergy and drive attendance more than one or two can.

Yup! I am excited for this one. It will compliment the nearby larger institutions. I hope it has a similar setup to Rodin.

Now the Parkway needs more residential and food options.
And lets move the National Archives Museum to Philadelphia while we are at it. That would look snazzy at 22nd and BF Parkway.

In terms of tourism, certain kinds of tourists like to see things they can only see in that city they're visiting. The Calder family has a long connection with Philly. It might not draw locals as frequently as the PMA, but I could see visitors wanting to see a more one-of-a-kind museum. The Barnes has the same kind of appeal

Most importantly there are three generations of Calder sculptures on the Parkway which makes the museum really fitting: https://www.associationforpublicart....-philadelphia/

My dream has always been for the Simeone Museum to open a location on the parkway (they're by the airport currently).

It was voted the number 1 car collection in the world: https://simeonemuseum.org/museum-new...-in-the-world/

I've always dreamt of seeing it housed in a cool building like this car museum in LA:
