As can be seen from the drawing, the new tower is 1.414 ft tall, which is twice the existing 270 Park tower.

I would certainly take 1,414 ft.

And love the setbacks, which are likely outdoor terraces.

Yea, it says 1,200-1,300 but it looks higher than that in proportion to the other buildings.

The setbacks are a bit much, hopefully they'll be less prominent from the other angle.

It has potential though, not bad

cool find — the setbacks leave room for that outdoor patio space amenity which is all the rage with the office kids these days.

If the "existing" versus the "proposed" diagram are to scale, IF they are to scale, its not the height thats impressive, but sweet baby rack Jesus, look at that bulk! This is going to have an immense presence on the skyline. They probally should call this tower Gargantua.

No speculation. The drawing is correct and the two towers are in proportion. Observe yourself.

As per Yimbyforums, the height is 1,425’!!!

Is it too early in the morning to open a bottle of Veuve?

Below we have the two versions of the tower. One of 1,414 ft and the other, as I imagined it, the smaller 1,320 ft version.

Thanks!

I assume that you have some inside knowledge of this project.

Have they made a decision as to the taller versus the shorter version? They appear to be identical, but for the very top.

Also, someone on Yimby who apparently has inside info said the height is 1,425'. Is he incorrect?

Either way, I think that this looks great.

No, are only hypotheses based on the drawings that have appeared on the web. If then the height is 1,425 ft better still.

This has alieved my fears of an overly bulky tower that would overwhelm One Vanderbilt. The lower bulk is fine, but the setbacks and scaling, and hopefully the added feature of the crown make this very much a NY tower. It could have easily been just a box.

Never too early. I opened up my Jack Daniels at 7:28 am as a pre-workout prior to work. Special events call for extraordinary measures.

Yeah I kinda felt the same at one point too. Given just how impact 1 Vandy has become and its impact on the skyline. It almost in a way resembles a sort of ESB like protectionism when it comes to its proxies and how towers shouldn't block it.

I love it. This tower is like a Brazilian woman: deliciously thick on the bottom and small but perky on top!

NYC loves them Phat towers I tell ya that. Some may prefer the skinny ones like 111 W 57th, but ain't nothing without the cushion or a strong base to really bring out the presence at street level.

This is such great news for this area, due to the tapering shape at the top, I’m pretty sure they will add an antenna which might add to the confusion of spire vs antenna and total height

Is this a Foster design? I'm getting my towers confused.

This building is screaming out for a Spire to top it off!!

I'd say a spire of 150 ft.. should cap this baby off at 1,575 ft!!

I'm glad everyone seems to be so impressed by this, but I'm a bit perplexed as to why.

First impressions: Jawa Sandcrawler on the bottom and convoluted collection of setbacks without a single note of cohesive architectural gesture. Tall? Sure. Is that all it takes for one to not have a single criticism of what at least to me seems like a graceless worker bee storage bunker?
