Every time I see a street with decent-looking Victorian shopfronts that I don't recognize, I now guess correctly that it's Victoria, the partly Ontario-looking city that went missing, got lost, and somehow ended up out west.

There's still room for it here if it wants to come home. No questions asked, being prodigal and all. The Lake Huron shore could do with a city of that size. Hell, we could even make it provincial capital, that would stir things up around here in a good way.

Victoria would be a cool city if it just wasn't so goddam BORING!

If you really want to go where absolutely nothing is happening, Victoria is the perfect choice.

(not that there's anything wrong with that)

Pellimo, thanks for your Quebec city aerials. However, they are too large. Can you shrink them for better viewing, especially on pads ?

And gorgeous Victoria pics by the way.

The opportunities for outdoor activities in Victoria are pretty damn good, but within the metro area and a short drive away. It seems to be a lifestyle decision, but most Victorians that I know are very happy with their existences there, with some stress over the cost of living.

I’ll have to check out Pellimo’s Quebec pics on my desktop computer as like Martin Mtl my iPad does not resize them to fit onto the screen. They look fascinating though - I love aerials!

Scaper, great pictures indeed - I recognize some of them from our August walk, which I still have posted yet either, lol. Next week! And one day I’ll get a zoom lens, love those perspectives you capture

I agree with Zeej - I think and know there’s tons to do in Victoria, too much too keep up with! The small geographic size also helps as you can get to pretty much everything in the core under 20 minutes. Every possible outdoor activity you can think of in a gorgeous setting, plus a busy pedestrian friendly downtown that’s a 7 day a week hub of activity, what more could you ask for? The best restaurants, sights, pubs, bars, breweries, coffee shops, museums, tourist stuff etc are all located here so when folks want to go out they go downtown. On weekends it’s still busy, with tourists and all also with locals who come downtown for a stroll with their family, to do some shopping, grab some food, etc.

I mean, how you can not have fun here?

I think the reason Halifax, Victoria and several other ‘smaller’ Canadian cities are growing in popularity is because people are realizing you can do 98% of the things here you can in a big city, but far easier and with less hassle. Ok, we don’t have Broadway style musicals or Justin Bieber touring here - but I’m going to call that a win..

It's a small city but every time I go, there's interesting live music and other cultural events. When I was there in July, an electronic music festival (experimental, not EDM – think Mutek) was going on and there were some pretty great shows in the parks. At the same time there were free weekly concerts in the plaza next to City Hall, including a hardcore night that was entirely unexpected.

The Sylvia Hotel, in all her regal and eccentric glory, still holds court at English Bay in downtown Vancouver's West End.

That's amazing. I've never seen so much ivy on a building before. Great photos too.

Why would they design a building on a corner with a side that has almost no windows?

Are some of those panels "windows that don't look like windows"?

Halifax - North End:

Downtown - new (?) courtyard between the Brewery Market and the new residential buildings being built around it:

Spring Garden - the building to the left of the library is Dal's architecture school (formerly NSTC/TUNS). The planters are new and the vegetation is still kind of underwhelming, but not as pathetic as earlier in the year:

One of the side streets in that area:
