I'm seriously disappointed if it is.

I mean, it was small all along...I know that; but somehow I was expecting a minor curevall/tweak throughout the design process.

EDIT: Looking at the many renders online, my hunch seems incorrect; but my sentiments remain.
No, the last piece is still on the ground. Everyone needs to get a ton of pictures this morning when that piece goes on tip

The misers at Archinent are calling this building "corporate boring" and "without merit" (sic). I guess a 1400 foot taper and a terracotta facade doesn't cut it.

If the building sprouted legs and danced the Tarantella, would that suffice? Idiots.

They are going to have a fit once they see 270 Park.

One Vanderbilt’s 1,401-Foot Pinnacle Set To Be Reached Later Today As Spire Installation Commences, In Midtown East

Quote:
On Monday, YIMBY reported that One Vanderbilt’s crown is now structurally finished. Only two days later, the rest of the spire is almost complete for the 1,401-foot high supertall, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by SL Green. Remaining sections for the 100-foot-tall spire have arrived on site, and were spotted on the eastern side of the property along Vanderbilt Avenue, as the initial components were lifted into place and installed atop the tower yesterday afternoon. Full completion of the spire is likely later today.

Peering through the construction fence shows how tall the upper component of the spire is. The scene is similar to when the final section of One World Trade Center’s architectural spire was carefully delivered and lifted into place just over six years ago.

Completion of One Vanderbilt is expected to happen sometime next year.

^ Exciting times. I put some closeups of the final piece on the previous page. If only the pedestrians knew they were witnessing history, everyone would be taking pics.

1WTC's architectural spire? Wow. Talk about revisionist history. The architectural element of the spire -the radome- which is what makes it a spire, was never installed on WTC-1's spantenna and therefore it is neither architectural nor is it a spire.

Sole blame for that falls on Durst

Yeah the spire debate needs to be revisited. Some quite frankly are bs, like the NY Times tower which is a super tall at 1,046 with a joke of a spire. NY Times tower can get that super tall boost yet the ESB can't get a bump on the books to be 1,472 to the tip, which its spire/antenna arguably is an integral part of its look. Although its 1,250′, the communications antenna and lightning rod give it a refined look that has stood the test of time since it was added. It would be nice for that to count... and its quite bulky too.

Similar gripes for the Sears tower, which sadly, those two antennas do not count, although give it an exquisite look IMO. Imagine Sears without the antenna, it would ruin the look.

And I mean, antennas are more useful to the building than spires. While the spire is basically useless and is only a decoration only meant to boost the buildings height, an antenna has the use of transmitting broadcasts and actually serves a purpose. The CTBUH must’ve been drunk when they decided that spires count and antennas don’t

Will there be anything in the top cone, or is it just empty space?

This turned out excellent though. Love it
