haha yeah.

hopefully they put their logo on the top that will change colors or something.

some people would probably hate that, but i think it could be cheeky, fitting and cool.

btw rival day glo is also in cleveland. a new neon glowing tower from them in the area would really make for a great counterpoint!

Eh, the world has enough dick towers.

Sherwin Williams could really put Cleveland on the global skyscraper map with a 1000-ft edifice featuring a great big pussy half way up.

The 1M sft is a conservative understatement. First, it does not include any parking for the 3,100 current HQ employees (plus confirmed 140 moved from another suburban location). The estimate for that is 800k in structured parking. Its also widely expected that once construction is complete, SW will announce moving the Valspar employees from Minneapolis. It wasn't in any announcements, but it was said they would be consolidating their corporate jobs which are currently still split after the merger. It also doesn't take into account their expected future growth. For reference, the current HQ space is about a million.

momentous good news in cleveland --- sw completes purchase of long held downtown eyesore parking lots for new hq.

March 20, 2020 11:47 AM
Sherwin-Williams buys downtown land
STAN BULLARD

The Sherwin-Williams Co. (NYSE: SHW) became the new owner of land on Cleveland Public Square and the Superblock west of it for a total of $49 million on Wednesday, March 18.

That's the tale told by online Cuyahoga County property records.

The Cleveland-based paint and coatings maker spoke with its wallet to say it was preparing to proceed on the site for its proposed million-square-foot global headquarters downtown.

right on public square, this lot is considered cleveland's top prime tower site.

Its a real shame that Cleveland lost the buildings on that lot for a giant parking lot. That PoMo proposal wouldve been amazing though. There were a number of very large PoMo proposals in a number of cities around America that were cancelled that wouldve really added a lot to their skylines.

actually, not to get too far off topic, but the 850' 1987 gehry progressive insurance tower nearer the cleveland lakefront would have been even more stunning and iconic.
instead, the mayor chased them off to suburbia....don't get me started lol.

yes, that is a newspaper sculpture for a crown.

Nice, good news, although as far as being on hold I'm assuming it's just because everything else is?

^ yes i believe so, but not totally sure.

there is an article in crains today, but its behind a paywall.

however i think the article above was updated to include this:

Julie Young, a Sherwin-Williams spokeswoman, said in an email: “We have no updates to share on the building project at this time as we focus on supporting our employees, customers and communities through these extraordinary circumstances.”

the good news is the state jobsohio program that is providing the grant money should come through ok as its funded by the state lock on liquor sales and of course booze use is going up everywhere lately.

Yea the schedule for this will probably be pushed back at least 3-6 months due to the chinese virus. Sherwin Williams seems pretty determined to see this happen, though, so it probably has a good chance.

Cleveland City Council approves tax incentives to help Sherwin-Williams build its new headquarters

City Council on Wednesday approved a tax financing package to help Sherwin-Williams Co. develop a $300-million world headquarters off Cleveland’s Public Square.

The package, known as tax increment financing, will allow Sherwin-Williams to divert money it would have paid in new property taxes toward financing of the building. It will be finalized once signed by Mayor Frank Jackson.

The complex, planned to be about 1 million square feet, is expected to retain 3,100 jobs in the downtown and generate about $8.6 million in income taxes for the city annually.

good news!

there have been some updates to sw website and apparently to employees -- basically after the pandemic pause -- it's back on!

there will probably be a public update announcement of some kind upcoming.

https://www.sherwin-williams.com/buildingourfuture/

Q16. When does Sherwin-Williams expect to break ground? Has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the project timing? [Updated]

Given the pause in some project activities since April, the Company is updating its project timeline. While the global headquarters and R&D center project continues to be a multi-year process, some milestone dates are expected to change and will be communicated when available. Overall, the transition to the new facilities is now likely to occur in 2024 compared to the previously announced timing of late 2023.

Q11. What is the name of the architect(s) and/or engineer(s) and/or general contractor(s) retained for the designs? Are design renderings available? [Updated]

Our key external partners supporting the project are as follows:

Pickard Chilton Architects, Inc. – Design architect for the global headquarters
HGA Architects and Engineers, LLC (HGA) – Base building architect for the global
headquarters; Design, base building and interior architect for the R&D Center

Vocon Partners, LLC – Interior architect for the global headquarters
Welty Gilbane, a Joint Venture – Construction manager
Mark G. Anderson Consultants, Inc. (MGAC) – Project manager, project controls and
owner’s representative

CBRE Inc. – Real estate and economic development advisor
Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP – Legal and economic development counsel
Hanson Bridgett LLP – Legal counsel
inSITE Advisory Group – Economic development advisor
No design renderings are available. We’ll share additional details as appropriate.

Pickard-Chilton makes some really nice glass and steel towers. Looking forward to this one.

Pickard Chilton is a very solid choice. They do very nicely detailed office towers.

And a little closer to Cleveland they've done two 700'+ office towers in Chicago for Hines (300 N LaSalle & River Point) along with the newish Northwest Mutual Tower up in Milwaukee. I believe those are they're only other Midwest Tower projects.

This is shaping up to be a very exciting development for Cleveland.
