It fits in nicely.

Broadview Manor needs to renew the agreement they had with the BW hotel. We can use their pool and they can use our gym, including the terrace.

Edit: I'm guessing the first part is a paint job on the old BW and maybe in 10 years the second building materializes.

Woah...

That will fill the area nicely and spice up my walk to Family Foods! haha

Have there been any renders for the rumoured highrise on St. Mary and Donald? If these are both going up around the same time it's going to really start to change this barren stretch.

Could that hotel physically fit on that small parking lot?

Edit: It's a bigger lot than I thought with that google view.

The architects have presumably considered this.

I don't think that the old pizza hut is even correctly situated based on the angle this is viewed from. That's supposed to be south of York right?

Edit: don't listen to me, I was wrong on this. For some reason I thought that the old PH was closer to St Mary.

I really hope both go through. It will help a bit. The block-long lot on the west side of Donald is still a big problem but its impact should be reduced somewhat by these two projects.

Fun fact. Broadview Manor was originally designed and built to be a hotel.

What's strange is the Pizza Place burned down and they rebuilt it.

so in that rendering, is the second/third floor... what, event/convention space? that seems unusual, i didn't think downtown was at all underbuilt for convention traffic given the RBC convention ctr...

I like it a lot, from a design standpoint I think it goes way above and beyond what we would typically expect to see for a mid-range hotel in a city like this (compare to, say, Alt Hotel). It will definitely chip away at that surface parking void along Donald. Is this a Ray Wan design?

I'm frankly surprised they're building this now, who knows how long it will take the hospitality market to recover. Although I guess if they start in 2022 it might have bounced back by the time it opens. But between this and the Sutton Place, that's a lot of new hotel rooms downtown.

I'm also surprised they're rebranding the BW into a Hampton Inn. The building is fairly old and it will seem extra dumpy next to a shiny new hotel. And even though you can refresh hotels, you can't do much about certain things like cramped old bathrooms, low ceilings, etc. I would have expected them to tear it down but I'm glad it will remain in place. Also, are they adding floors to it? The reddit link shows the hotel with 7 storeys, but it only has 5 now. Would anyone actually add floors to that thing with a new hotel tower going up next door?

That hotel is beautiful. And filling a parking lot even. Ten more giant parking lots to go.

Several of the biggest parking lots, including the three largest ones in that photo, are owned by the province to provide cheap parking for government workers. I wish there was pressure on them to release them.

The apartment building at Donald and St Mary should start construction in the spring. 15 stories. Another good parking lot filler.

Two reasonably big new buildings along that stretch of Donald should help to improve the feel of that street. It's nice to see some movement in what has been one of the more development-resistant parts of downtown Winnipeg.

Is the Donald/St. Mary one the entire lot on the east side or just the northern half?

Less than a foot from property line to property line. Mixed use.
