Pretty much all of America is affordable, except for maybe the craziest parts of the Bay Area (Peninsula). When you look at relative incomes and relative home sizes, the U.S. is cheap compared to Canada, Australia and Western Europe.

Wrong, those places are expensive relatively. America is baseline as always

I don't know how Canadians do it. Here, we can go from an expensive area to an affordable one. Seems like everything outside of Moosejaw is $$$ up there.

He's saying US is baseline. Those places being expensive doesn't make the US cheap overall. Just cheaper than those places.

Obviously, this depends on what a particular person believes is affordable. Or, this could be based off of what percentage of Americans can afford to live in this community. Or we could all just look at a map of zip codes based on housing costs. The higher up on the scale, the less Americans would be able to afford to live there. So, the Bay Area would be the least affordable, since it is, or is close to being the highest city for cost of living.

In 2019 the median annual wage in America was around $32k, so a single person living on less than that would find large swathes of the country unaffordable.

Many Canadians aren't able to do it. That's why this is becoming a simmering issue.
