Looks like the west concourse gate expansion should begin in November 2023...with an expected delivery in late 2026.

Apologies if this has already been reported...Hawaiian Airlines is increasing the AUS-HNL frequency from 3x-weekly to 4x-weekly from May 26 to August 18 (returning to 3x-weekly after that).

Thanks. I always appreciate people posting information, even if it has been posted before. It makes it easier to find instead of needing to go back and look through multiple pages of replies to find what you're looking for. So once again, thanks.

I found page 24 very interesting indeed. It shows an eventual 4 parallel concourses to the south. A possible 4 concourses is huge.

Do any of those not overlap with the current south terminal?

Maybe we should just build a different one to start, and let the lease run out.

On that slide they note that the AUS campus can accommodate from 60-80 million annual passengers.

According to wikipedia, DFW did 73.3M passengers in 2022. Atlanta Hartsfield did 93.6M. Denver did 69.2 M. In other words -- so long as demand holds -- we could essentially build ourselves out to be one of the busiest airports in the country.

I've been wondering about that lately myself. It's a long lease, but it may be doable to work around it, even if not preferable. Based on the image on Slide 24, it seems that what I'll call Terminals 2 & 3 could be built at least to the east (top of image in its current orientation) and later expanded to the west (bottom). Terminal 4 may not be doable without resolving the traffic flow into the current South Terminal. Granted, this would be a huge undertaking to have essentially two half-terminals built, but at least the underground connector would be there for future expansions.

That said, it may be easier to just pay them off and move on. It was a dumb contract. But I don't envy those who have to make the decisions on how to proceed with anticipated growth and resolving this major past mistake.

That is cool to see the parallel layout. I'm glad to see them thinking more than ~10 years down the road and having to constantly play catch up.

Let's not confuse things...those are not "terminals." Those are concourses. Also, the current taxiways are being moved to accommodate the new Concourse B (BJT will be Concourse A). Their planned new location runs straight through the South Terminal.

Even though there was once an idea to create a completely new passenger terminal and concourse on the south side of the airport (similar to how ATL is set up), that idea was scrapped due to the incredibly high cost of such a project.

ABIA is going to have deal with their South Terminal issue to get the overall expansion underway.

I'm happy to see that sort of vision for the future (no matter how far out it may be). Wow...I counted 150+ gates spread across four concourses. And, they have room to add more if necessary.

I for one just hope the mini moontower pictured in the west terminal infill project rendering sees itself through to the final build.

Unless they redesign where the new cross taxiways are to be placed, this is not an option. Currently, they are planned to run straight through where the South Terminal sits today.

No. You're looking at enplanements (boardings). If ABIA has 25-27 million PAX in 2023 it would fall somewhere in the Top 20-23 range of busiest airports in the U.S. (by total number of passengers). It's currently #28.
