2022 could see construction begin on a number of larger projects downtown ranging from 18 to 28 floors, and a few others in the 9 to 13 floor range.

the www.idahostatesman.com has an article today previewing some of them, and even hints that another one is being worked on.

another proposal for Garden City. i'm including it here because many of these projects and proposals ranging from 4 to 18 stories are just a stone's throw away from downtown Boise.

affordable housing proposal for State Street, about a mile west of downtown. the city is hoping to convert State into a more high-density corridor connecting the NW communities with downtown.

the 27-floor, 317-foot 12th and Idaho tower has been approved.

here's a rough screen cap from the design review video... the building is on the far left:

story today in the Idaho Statesman about the city, the CCDC, and the Land Group looking at revitalizing Fulton Street on the south edge of downtown.

Currently it looks like this:

The area does have a microbrewery, a theater, a studio and parking lots, but they're looking to update the streetscape to be more pedestrian friendly and encourage additional development:

These are exciting times for Boise.

I was thinking, given how absurd it is that Beijing is hosting the Winter Olympics, does anyone think with the continued growth that Boise, which is at the footsteps of all sorts of winter sports activity, could host the Winter Olympics?

interestingly, that was brought up when SLC hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002. there were people in Boise that wondered if Boise could eventually be a future host (they were thinking 30 or 40 years down the road).

I don't see it happening anytime soon. The infrastructure isn't here, and despite the number of new hotels build recently, it would require many more rooms to be added.

If somewhere decades from now Boise could handle such an event, Boise would probably host a few events (opening/closing ceremonies and arena events), with the outdoor events held in Sun Valley or Tamarack Resort, both about 2+ hours away. the local ski resort (Bogus Basin) could handle snowboarding, but the hill isn't large enough for the downhill.

Boise DID host the 2009 Winter Special Olympics (opening/closing ceremonies were held in suburban Nampa), with events scattered throughout the valley and southern Idaho, including Sun Valley. It was successful though much smaller in scale than the regular games.

first is on the west side on state street:

State and Arthur (image from Tvurban):

next is downtown just south of the river in a rapidly-densifying area near the Boise State campus.
