Perhaps a typo on your part, but this cycle has actually given us 6 new towers over 800' tall, the most in any of the city's highrise construction booms, with possibly even more on the way.

chicago's 800+ footers have been built in 4 distinct building booms, with one outlier (park tower):

Chicago towers over 800' tall by construction cycle:

1969-1976: 5
- hancock
- chase
- aon
- sears
- WTP

1989-1990: 4
- franklin center
- 900 N
- 2 Pru
- 311 S

2000: 1
- park tower

2009-2010: 3
- trump
- aqua
- legacy

2019-202?: 6 + 5 proposals
- OBP
- NEMA
- vista
- 110 N
- One Chicago (U/C)
- Salesforce (U/C)

- Tribune east
- 400 LSD 1
- LSE site I
- 1000M
- NEMA 2

I can remember being in high school, cutting out Trib articles and blurry real estate section renderings for good old Park Tower. Look how far we've come since then.

^ It was scouring the pre-google internet for info and construction pics of park tower that first led me to "Nalyd's Skyscraperpage" way back in 1998.

What a revelation park tower was after the absolute doldrums of the '90s. That was an excruciatingly boring time to be a scraper fan in Chicago.

^Yep. I think I started reading SSP around the same time while taking my study hall in the library. The librarian liked me and just let me surf the web for the whole period. Altavista... Netscape... Ahhh, [somewhat] good memories.

Park Tower was one of the first buildings I really paid attention to. That and BCBS.

I remember following the construction thread here. It's a shame that thread wasn't archived. At least, I can't seem to find it.

Ah yeah in my head I had a 900' threshold for some reason.

^ Relevant to the discussion. I was looking at this month's Plan Commission presentation for 1000 S. Michigan Ave. Page 7 says that NEMA is 909 ft. Since this is in an official DPD presentation, should the height in the forum be corrected?

Presentation:https://www.chicago.gov/content/dam/...esentation.pdf

I'm asking someone at CTBUH. I'll post when/if I hear back.

NEMA Height

The CTBUH website lists the height of NEMA at the tip at 909 feet and architecturally at 896 feet. When I called the CTBUH earlier this year about the 13 foot difference, they said the difference was due to a structure similar to a window washing structure and not counted in the official height of NEMA.

A new construction building permit was issued yesterday for 345 N Morgan St. This will rise 11 stories...288 feet and feature ground floor retail. All other floors will be office in which I am pretty sure this is mainly for Google.

The 11 story building that was permitted will be 178 ft. The 288 ft tower will be built across the street: https://neighborsofwestloop.com/311-...-sterling-bay/

Oops, thanks for the correction. Glad it still qualifies as a high rise

CONFIRMED...

The 909' height is to the top of window washing equipment and doesn't count.

The Aon center observatory and thrill ride delayed again - Chicago Tribune

Can't say I'm mad about this. It would be cool to ride on, but would mess up the crown and facade of one of the best skyscrapers we have. Hoping this is a step towards the plan fizzling out.

Thanks for the update! 896 ft is the official height then

Also, Assemble Chicago (the team w/ Studio Gang) won the C40 competition. With how excellent their proposal is, there really wasn't any competition. 207 affordable units | renovated Pritzker Park | multilevel retail, garden, and meeting space | net-zero energy

Am I smoking something, or was I the only one that remembers a site that Tom had wayyyyy back in the day that listed highrises with renderings?..... Or was that a different site?
