Project update for the new home of the Wayne State University Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music, from LinkedIn | Hamilton Anderson Associates -

Quote:
Opening in Spring 2023, the HAA/HGA collaboration project Hilberry Gateway: the future performance home for the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music, currently under construction at the corner of Cass and Forest. It will house two state-of-the-art theatres with 21st-century technology design, the production facilities and the Gretchen Valade Jazz Center.

The precast walls are all in place, steel is mostly up and the image inside is showing the audience chamber of the main theater looking towards the stage - you can see the steel for the catwalks and the main stage opening. Phase 1 of the project slated to be completed in January 2023 and then Phase 2 (renovation of the existing building) is to start. Construction by Rockford Construction.

Oudolf Garden Detroit opened last Saturday:

Oudolf Garden Detroit Officially Opens this Weekend

Quote:
A project years in the making, Oudolf Garden Detroit will be officially unveiled on Aug 28. The 2.5-acre garden on Belle Isle, which was designed by the world-renowned Dutch horticulturist Piet Oudolf, features 32,000 perennials and grasses.

Located in front of the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon, the garden is made up of Oudolf’s three perennial plant styles:block, matrix, and group planting. Ninety percent of the plants in the garden come from Michigan growers, and the Virgin Purple Cornflower, Sea Lavender, Nekan Blue Sage, Winged Loosestrife, and American Feverfew are among those now in bloom.

The garden came to life, in part, through the efforts of The Garden Club of Michigan, a nonprofit the promotes the importance of gardening locally. The group commissioned the garden design. Meanwhile, the all-volunteer group Oudolf Garden Detroit Grounds Crew managed the project — they obtained permission to plant the garden and raised $4.7 million to plant and endow it as well as overcome obstacles like flooding on Belle Isle in 2019 and the pandemic. The crew will continue to maintain the garden.

Coda is already 40% reserved. And it looks like the office portion is leased.

Quote:
Even though the ultra distinctive CODA condominiums have only been on the MLS for 10 days, we are now delighted to announce that the development is already 40% reserved. Among the units spoken for are the two most expensive, including the Superflat. This image shows the orientation of the residences which are still available. More info at CodaDetroit.com

Park Ave does look awesome I remember a few years ago trying to get as many people as I could to sign the petition not demolish the building. It’s a big step forward for the west end of Grand Circus now the NW corner is going to be completely activated if Olympia gets moving on the United Artists renovation that will put the the final piece in place for some really exciting prospects.

The Michigan Building could be a icon and a popular entertainment center if the garage aspect is removed and the space is renovated properly perhaps a world class Leyland so to speak.

^^^^ Yeah, the Michigan Building could really use some attention. Some of the upper floor windows have been open for months/years? and terra cotta occasionally falls onto the sidewalk. Quite honestly I'm not sure how the building is still open. I can't imagine it has many tenants judging by its condition. The Washington Boulevard Apartments also need some help.

New Detroit Hotel Will Have Virtual Shooting, Golf Ranges

Quote:
The developers of a $50 million hotel in downtown Detroit, having lost their prospective groundfloor tenants in the pandemic, are trying to hold things together by instead offering some very Michigan entertainment offerings: Shooting and golf. But given, of course, that it's an upscale hotel in downtown Detroit, the activities will be simulated.

Crain's reports on the Cambria hotel's pivot:

Instead of corporate tenants, developers are bringing in Five Iron Golf, a golf simulator and entertainment venue chain originating in New York City, and EOTech, an Ann Arbor-based designer and manufacturer of gun gear and clothing.

Five Iron Golf will fill 24,000 square feet with 13 driving bays, a large putting green and a club fitting area. Additionally, the space will include a full-service bar, two bowling lanes, pool tables, shuffleboard and widescreen TVs, according to a news release from the company. The Trackman-enabled bays measure play stats such as distance, spin and strokes in real time and come equipped with simulations of well-known courses around the world.

EOTech Gear Store will occupy around 8,000 square feet with an outdoor equipment retail store and an interactive firearms training simulator, Caradonna said. The shooting range won't be used for live firearms but will be used for training purposes and to demonstrate the company's technology.
Pallister Gardens townhomes go up for pre-sale

Quote:
More new townhomes are heading to Detroit, this time in the New Center/Virginia Park neighborhood. Pallister Gardens will have 16 new construction townhomes; they've recently gone up for pre-sale starting at $329,000.

They sit in the middle of a residential neighborhood, just a couple blocks from Henry Ford Hospital. It's led by developers Jim Budziak and Rich Inger of FPJ Investments, with construction by Bondy Construction, and design by 4545 Architecture. They're being sold through Todd Sykes of the Loft Warehouse.

The team also worked on the North Corktown 11 townhomes, which sold out before construction was complete.
Plans call for a two story building on Kipling and Pallister called "The Kiplingers"

And a three story building on Poe and Pallister called The Pallisters:

The Marygrove Early Childhood Education Center had a ribbon cutting on Friday, September 17. During the ceremony, it was announced that the Kresge Foundation is committing another ~ $25 million to the cradle-to-career campus that is being developed on the former Marygrove College campus, making their total commitment ~ $75 million -

Several local media outlets are reporting that groundbreaking for the Godfrey Hotel will be this week, but that can't happen because the building thats supposed to be demolished for the project is still standing. I think what's actually happening is demo and site prep. I went by earlier and they've delivered some construction fences to the site, as well as at the site of the apartment component of this project at Michigan and Church.

The Godfrey Hotel Detroit to feature 227 rooms, rooftop lounge in Corktown

Quote:
Construction will soon begin on a chic, 227-room hotel in Corktown that will feature a rooftop lounge, 5,500-square-foot ballroom, lobby bar, and ground-floor, chef-driven restaurant.

The developers, Oxford Capital Group and Hunter Pasteur, plan to break ground this week on The Godfrey Hotel Detroit at 1401 Michigan Ave. between Trumbull and Eight Street.

The seven-floor hotel is scheduled to open in 2023 and provide 160 to 200 part-time and full-time jobs with health insurance and a minimum pay of $17 an hour. An additional 200 to 300 construction jobs also will be created. At least 25% of the jobs will go to Detroiters, the developers said.

Rendering of I|O Rooftop Lounge

Here's a few other renderings I came across:

Corner of 8th and Leverette. The rundown building in the foreground has been renovated and will soon be home to Detroit Axe's Corktown location.

Not sure if this is also the rooftop bar or if its the ground floor restaurant/bar

The lobby

A few other articles have mentioned that the Michigan + Church apartments are apparently now called "The Perennial Corktown" and will also open in 2023.

These two developments are such a game changer for Michigan Avenue. It's finally going to feel more complete, a lot more like Woodward.
