Development of a Technology City in Thiruvananthapuram under the name ‘Technocity' is an already announced dream project of the State Government.
Business eco-system: Thiruvananthapuram's business eco-system has succeeded in creating the
biggest Tier-II IT/ITeS destination in India which
accounts for 75-80 per cent of Kerala's IT exports.
Human resources: Thiruvananthapuram
has a significant catchment of human resources which primarily consists of southern Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu (Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Virudhunagar districts) and also extends to the rest of Kerala.Knowledge hub:
Thiruvananthapuram
is one of India's leading hubs of research and development and higher education in terms of both the number of institutions of national importance and the sheer diversity of fields that they are involved in. This provides an excellent base for IT/ITeS and technology firms to source both intellectual capital and human resources.
Social infrastructure: All the facilities available in an Indian metro, if not in a major international city, are also available in Thiruvananthapuram.
Healthcare: The city has around 10 tertiary care hospitals and more than 50 specialty private hospitals in addition to high-quality public health-care. Thiruvananthapuram and the State also has perhaps the highest doctor-population ratios in India and has a human development index score on health which is close to developed countries such as the US and the UK.
Diverse portfolio: Unlike most other Tier- II IT/ITeS destination which focus mostly on BPO and low-end IT operations with focus on cost arbitrage,
Thiruvananthapuram is focused on product and application development, KPO and R&D while still maintaining a healthy share of ITeS work.
Finally, the city also has
a healthy record of home-grown successes, such as UST Global which has over 8,000 employees and offices across the world or IBS which is now a top provider of logistics software to leading airlines across the world. Over 300 SMEs operate in the IT/ITeS domain in the city and they provide a major captive market for both built-up space and developed land.
