^aside from the front garages I think most of those Old city houses are pretty decent by today's modest standards for rowhome design. Its amazing how many are being built in that part of town, but it is relatively quiet down there and you are separated from most of the urban ills of center city like homeless addicts on every corner.

We're in Old City. There are a few on market street (homeless addicts, that is) but for the most part, you're right. It's pretty amazing how that part of town has resurrected it's image. We've heard plenty of stories about how Old City used to be one of the worst parts of Center City. It can still get nuts but its not like it used to be - meatheads and pencil skirt snookies teetering around on 6 inch heels doing body shots until they puke. I think there are only a few of the "clubs" that drew that crowd into Old City.

There is a TON of building going on in Old City and it's pretty much all high end. I think I'd rather see more of a nod to the more classic architecture that is the bones of Old City. But I do have to admit that The Bridge @ Race steet is pretty damn cool.

Where would you like to see these clubs placed?

They're fine where they are. I was just saying that at one point, there were so many of those clubs and lounges in Old City that became it's personality. At one point in the night, everyone would spill out into the streets and that's when the trouble happened. That type of atmosphere has given way to a more well-rounded one. That's all I'm saying.

I have a couple of friends who own places and they say that it has gotten a million times better over the last 5-10 years.

Sounds like you wouldn't mind one near you.

Possibly one of the most convenient finds in archaeological history haha...but this is why Philly is one of the most interesting cities in the US.

Yeah, guess they dug up their own exhibits.

I like the NoLibs proposal. I especially like that it doesn't contain garages on 5th and 6th streets. The houses have garages, but they are all internal facing. Regarding density, it doesn't seem any more dense than other parts of the neighborhood.

For what they charge for parking, I can only imagine what the sky rocket prices for apartments will be! They should be ashamed for what they charge for parking for 2 hours. 29 bucks is outrageous, and I'm sure they're not the only ones in Center City Philadelphia either. I had the chance to park there twice. First time I was unaware, the second time a friend of mine drove me into town as I was having a procedure done at Hahneman Hospital that required me to bring an escort after surgery. He pulled into there, and I said oh no, not here! But it was too late, he was in the driveway and someone was behind us. I told him go ahead, I have my credit cards on me...sheesh.

I mean, if the market will bear $29 for two hours, why would they not charge it? They're a business, not a charity. Expensive garages are a great thing from an urbanist perspective because it will incentive public transit use.

Park?
Wait so we are acknowledging that people drive cars again?

Don't worry about it, soon there will be no parking left, and everyone will be forced to walk or take public transit
