Agreed. I drive by a few times a week and am shocked at the slow pace. Do they have more than a handful of people working on site?

It's hard to tell from the pics, but what is the floor height?

Still quicker than the william’s projects on clarence/college or the old credit union. Don’t forget how lucky we are to have the most mediocre of builders lol

Canadian Driver, thanks! You weren't kidding. A month later and not much difference in either project. A bit, yes, so still, nice to see. I am humbly silenced. I was just wondering why I couldn't see the crane on 25th st rise higher.

I go by there every day, and sometimes I think I should grab a picture of it for the forum, except..... the progress is glacial. Photos from a month or two ago are basically still current. Maybe Baydo has directed their attention to their big project in the suburbs (Evergreen) at the expense of this one. There seems to be no real push/need/demand for things to happen quickly in Saskatoon. Life in a small town, I guess.

I wonder if part of their agreement with the city when the land was purchased included starting construction by a certain date, as well as a stipulation that construction mustn't cease to progress. Given the increase in the borrowing rate over the last twelve-months, I wonder if Baydo is trying to wait this one out. By delaying construction as much as possible, they would technically be abiding by their agreement with the city, while not having to make progress payments to vendors at a higher rate. Just a theory. Ultimately, there is an incentive for construction to progress at such a snails pace.

Wow, such fantastic photos! Thank you! I've always loved that little candy cane in the foreground, ha!

These photos really show how difficult it would be for any single new building to make a major impact on the skyline. I mean, they could build a (very hypothetical) 40-story tower beside the arena, and from this angle it wouldn't stand out. Look at Nutrien Tower --- does it look like the tallest building in the province? Anyway, I'm just harping about aesthetics. Because the downtown is so spread out, I'd take multiple smaller developments over a single larger one every day. Still, it would be nice to have a tower in the centre to draw the core together visually.

With respect to these Baydo buildings, they'll have a great view of the river. We haven't seen renderings of them from the east, have we? I wonder if they'll make the most of that view, or if residents will be stuck with pinhole windows. Or hey, since the buildings abut the YWCA et al., maybe that side won't have windows at all to speak of, party-wall style. Dear god --- maybe we've only seen the "pretty" renderings.

Thank you again for the photos! All griping aside, the city is beautiful this time of year.

Good god no!! not with that atrocious design it wouldn't. I'd love a 50 storey tower for Saskatoon, but with an elevated aesthetic.

Also, it'll never happen.

At their current pace, it would be done in twenty years or so. Maybe Saskatoon will need a 50-story building by 2043!

I don't think they've added any floors...they've just added tarped hoarding.

Well, does anyone know how their project in Evergreen is progressing? If it's stalled too, then maybe?

Evraz only makes pipe and plate, they do not make structural sections. I have heard that the lead time for structural members is very long right now.

Yes 6 to 8 months for some pre-engineered buildings

As Saskabusher had alluded, I'm pretty sure that the steel for this building is coming from China. Covid shutdowns may be impacting deliveries. Or it could be any of a multitude of things.

Regardless, there doesn't appear to have been any progress on the tower structural steel between the Dec 9th & Jan 11th photos. Kind of what we've come to expect on this job.
