This is Jennifer Pritzker building the museum, not the governor. They are cousins who are both billionaires.
I suspect they went to Wisconsin with the museum because part of the program involves live firearms and a shooting range. Good luck finding an Illinois suburb that wants to have that in their backyard, and Illinois laws might make the handling of firearms more difficult. Ironically Somers didn't want outdoor shooting either so Pritzker had to
cancel those plans, but at that point she had already bought the land and started working with Helmut Jahn. Supposedly there will now be an underground shooting range, whatever that means.
Pritzker's certainly done plenty of investment in Chicago, though. Restoring the Michigan Boulevard Building, putting up those limestone rowhouses at Clark/Chestnut, the parking garage in Rogers Park at Sheridan/Sherwin, and I'm sure many other projects.
