Anybody ever bike ride on the Skokie valley trail? It’s an excellent way to travel north-south from the city to suburbs. It goes by a lot of these projects. There’s plans to complete the missing pieces for a path between Waukegan and Chicago
I do often. It is not the most scenic path but it is straight for long stretches which is great for bike training. It somewhat parallels/redundant with the North Branch trail, which is much more scenic.

If they choose to extend it south then great of course. Really just extending the bike route south from Lake-Cook ((where it currently ends) to near New Trier West High School would help integrate the bike network in the north burbs greatly.

The information is a little spread out across multiple jurisdictions but it will fill in from Milwaukee Ave all the way to the edge of Waukegan last I checked. There’s some substantial crossings like Touhy that will likely be copied on other major avenues

They both have cta access. That’s where similarities end. Skokie has a population that’s 5-6x larger and is hemmed in by the affluent parts of the N/NW side and north shore. There are enough people nearby and high enough property values already to support continued residential downtown development. FP has a completely different and generally older, lower priced housing stock with lower asking rents.

Lincolnwood cleared the way for the hotel component at 1860 on the corner of Lincoln and Touhy. Add this to Homewood Inn in Skokie and a big gap of decent lodging in the area will be filled.

Here's an update on the Jahn designed Pritzker Archives and Memorial Park Center up in Kenosha along with some photos of the model from the exhibit at the CAC. . . larger renderings can be found at their website. . .

Cool project. I also dug up this story, which gets into technical details of the design and construction:

Kenosha isn't a suburb in the traditional sense, but it's in the MSA, and it has a direct Metra connection to downtown, so..... close enough for the purposes of this thread.

Besides, that Jahn project up there looks dope as hell!

At some point in the future, people will wonder why a city in Wisconsin named a public park after a former Governor of Illinois.

Jennifer Pritzker was governor?

As everyone who lives in Chicago knows, Kenosha is part of greater "Chicagoland". . . it's part of the Chicago media market and half the NFL fans up there root for the Bears. . . the fact that it's not in Illinois has nothing to do with anything. . . thanks for sharing

This is Jennifer Pritzker building the museum, not the governor. They are cousins who are both billionaires.

I suspect they went to Wisconsin with the museum because part of the program involves live firearms and a shooting range. Good luck finding an Illinois suburb that wants to have that in their backyard, and Illinois laws might make the handling of firearms more difficult. Ironically Somers didn't want outdoor shooting either so Pritzker had to cancel those plans, but at that point she had already bought the land and started working with Helmut Jahn. Supposedly there will now be an underground shooting range, whatever that means.

Pritzker's certainly done plenty of investment in Chicago, though. Restoring the Michigan Boulevard Building, putting up those limestone rowhouses at Clark/Chestnut, the parking garage in Rogers Park at Sheridan/Sherwin, and I'm sure many other projects.

Looks like a super awesome building. Too bad it couldn't have found itself in the city or at least the near suburbs. Maybe in part due to the footprint? It looks bloody huge. Still, nice that it is not too far a drive for most Chicagoans.
