I admit this is a little farther away from Jubilee but it's on the same strip, so I thought I'd put it here...

Looks like the familiar green paint is going up on the old Rexall at McGillivray. Yet another Dollarama moving in? If not, then it's the similarly-green Dollar Tree

Dollaramas are popping up everywhere the way Tim Hortons did 20 years ago...

I remember when I was young I never understood why my mom would shop at dollarama because I saw it as nothing but cheap junk. Now as an adult I get it! You’ve often paying 2x or 3x less than other stores for the same sort of thing. Sure it’s nothing fancy but as I see it, you either go for high end items and pay a lot and expect it to last. Or you get the cheapest you can because it’s all the same anyway. Dollarama is great at fulfilling the second category.

^ Dollarama is not quite as earth-shattering as it was when it first arrived on the scene in these parts about 20 years ago, but it was pretty remarkable at the time. You could find decent quality household knick-knacks there for a buck, which was the price for everything in the store back then... this was for the same kinds of things that could cost several times more at other stores.

Now of course with the maximum price up to $5 it's not the great deal that it once was, but it's arguably more convenient since the product range is bigger and better.

I remember being a little kid in the 1980s and seeing this overpass, and I thought, 'Man.. big city'.

Now I don't know what to say.

Anyone know what's happening with the Wildwood Motorsports building? Interior and exterior renovations ongoing.

From an Arby's to a Subway to a KFC. Maybe one day in the future this site at Pembina and Windermere will get the development it deserves.

It's funny how that section of Pembina was largely unchanged for decades and now there's so much happening all at once.

That Point on Pembina is another strange construction job. I love the project but it seems excruciatingly slow....like there is only 3 or 4 guys working on the foundation.

Biweekly Vic's update: New opening date is mid November. Delay in getting the new signage. Both sites will run concurrently while inventory from the old store is depleted, then it will shut down.

Though it's a separate parcel from the condos slated to replace the Cambridge, the manager at Vic's said it's in very poor repair. Really hoping it becomes more than additional parking for the condo building. Dream would be to shift the condo to entirely face Pembina and make the Merriam portion of the build just parking. Fills Pembina up more and makes more appealing commercial space in the entire first floor of the building instead of only a portion.

Today's progress on The Point on Pembina. In the background, work continues on the former Wildwood Motorsports building.

It’s the next Hammock District. Biff knows what I’m talking about.
