I've enountered 3 sharks on my snorkling trips. 2 reef sharks on the Great Barrier Reef off of Cairns (Oz). Last time, a 12-ft Tiger Shark (!!) while snorkling off of the Big Island (Hawaii), a stone's throw from were Captain Cook met his untimely death.

Walking on the beach in Gaspésie is a great thing to do. What's even greater is to swim in its warmer emerald / turquoise rivers inland. That's where the locals go when they need une bonne saucette.

Crystal Beach, near Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Maybe not a famous one, but certainly a little jewel. Since I'm from Rouyn-Noranda Qc, not to far, I went there many times in my childhood. The mix of fine sand, pine trees and pristine water make that place absolutely delicious. The extra mountain pictures are taken on the Ont-Qc. border. The mountain, named Mont Chaudron or Cheminis Hill, is on the Quebec side, but really just by the border.

Canatara Beach in Point Edward/Sarnia! I also revisited Grand Bend today and liked it better, possibly because it was mostly locals not day trippers; also Port Franks (didn't see the beach), Errol and Brights Grove - my favourite "suburb" of Sarnia I could live there easily ha. Point Edwards/Sarnia reminds me of how Canadian cities felt in the '90s. I liked it - drove around many residential 'hoods and hope to be back soon!

Euston Park Social, an open air beer garden and patio in downtown Moncton has opened up an outlet at Parlee Beach in Shediac, about 15 minutes north of the city. Should be popular!

That looks like a place I'd like to crush at during the summer.

That looks pretty cool... I wish Grand Beach or Winnipeg Beach had something like that. What's inside the huge indoor space?

Change rooms, lockers, showers, and indoor seating area for the food services, that sort of thing.

The beer garden however is new.

It is really nice. I kind of wish I hadn't seen it, it makes me aware of how pathetically underserviced our public beaches are here

Bluffer's Beach in Scarborough. Definitely Toronto's most scenic beach:

I went to Grand Beach, Manitoba yesterday for the first time in six years... I had forgotten how lovely it was, the sand is as nice and soft as any I've been on. And with the dry conditions, the lake water levels are lower than usual which means a huge beach to spread out on. Strangely though, the extra space wasn't even necessary... considering the perfect weather and the general lack of entertainment options, I was a little surprised at how un-crowded the beach was. I found the water on the cold side as it typically is in June... not unbearable, but definitely on the chilly side.

Grand Beach is a great place, although it is really underdeveloped. The selection of restaurants is basically limited to a few hotdog and ice cream stands, and there are no decent places to stay unless you're cottaging or camping. Not even a basic Super 8 Motel type joint. I guess the seasons are just a bit too short to support that kind of tourist infrastructure. The other side of the lake at Gimli and Winnipeg Beach has such things, but the beach is not as good as Grand's... Gimli is very pebbly/rocky by comparison.

Not to be outdone by the Euston Park Social beer garden at Parlee Beach in Shediac, Cavok Brewing Company has opened a beer garden at Plage Aboiteau Beach in Cap Pele (just 5-6 km down the Northumberland shore from Parlee Beach).

Let the Beer Beach War begin!!!

This is how NB will become the beach capital of Atlantic Canada, seizing the crown from PEI.

I'll be heading up here next week, maybe not really a beach but still the best place to swim near Toronto IMO.

^ The black flies were pretty bad up there last summer. I wonder if it was exceptional or if it’s always like this?

At the Grotto? It must have been an exception. Also Black Fly season is only a few weeks long. You might have just been unlucky time wise. I've never encountered black flies in that area.

That water looks incredible... for someone weaned on Lake Winnipeg's murky waters that is like something out of the Caribbean.

I'm definitely more partial to Aboiteau than to Parlee. The latter is a bit too touristy and busy for my liking.
