This photo does a pretty good job of showing just how far apart Third+Shoal and Austin Proper are. They always look so close to me.

It looks like they are working on the top floor now.

I missed that whole exchange last month where we seem to have lost two forum members. I just read it all. I saw no mention of this...

"Wah Wah" is not crying. It's the horn sound when something fails, like on a game show or sitcom.

I'm glad you posted that. I was going to post something similar a while back because that wah wah misunderstanding seemed to be as much of the problem as the constant criticism of the project.

I missed that as well. Dang. The Genral's been here almost 10 years. He needs to come back ASAP.

I enjoy Gensler's work and can't imagine the amount of work that goes into making a building come to fruition but we can't overlook the art element of architecture. These buildings are like paintings being permanently hung on the walls of our home. We have a right to be a little picky (or nitpicky).

On the other hand, we do get a little bit bored sometimes and make something out of nothing. Both sides just need to be a little more tolerant of each other.

Also, wah wah can be trying or the sad trombone sound.

Here's a 2c on that Gensler fiasco. That Gensler person is likely no longer employed there, once the corporate HR found out what was going on (and you bet they did). Posting the way (s)he did violated all kinds of basic corporate communication rules. No sane company would tolerate that.

How do we even know that person was really from Gensler? It was probably just some bored troll.

Hard to believe someone from Gensler, posting as a private individual on a public forum, would name their account "Gensler."

On the other hand, people do stupid stuff on the internet all day every day.

Based on the renderings showing the roof, I think they've poured the ceiling for the last office floor - floor 29. Those forms at the top now are for the mechanical screen and mechanical penthouse columns.

Based on that, the height now is 369 feet. They still have to pour the concrete walls for the mechanical penthouse and complete the columns for the mechanical screen, plus the glass, obviously. So it's 20 feet from being at its full height now.

Man, it's starting to look like we're getting a watered-down version of what had been previous rendered.

The most interesting thing about this building had been how the horizontal lines of the southern half of the building mesh with the vertical lines of the northern half and its setbacks. In the renderings, the white horizontal paneling is covered with glass and vertical fins on the northern half, muting the horizontal lines in favor of the vertical. It drew your eyes horizontally from the eastern side of the southern face, across the western face, and then up the fins and the setbacks:

Now it looks like, in addition to a uniform grey-block base, we're not going to get a glassy face on the northern half of the western side?

Unless they're going to come back and add another layer of glass later on? I really hope that's the case, because with a solid podium and simple white horizontal stripes there's going to be nothing of visual interest to this thing other than the addition of a new glass color to the skyline.

Doubt it.

Man, this building really turned out to be a disappointment. At this point I won't be surprised if they ditch the dramatic vertical lighting we saw in the nighttime renderings.

Of course my biggest complaint is still the solid gray base. The second image in your post (the tiny one) you can clearly see that the corner piece of the base is supposed to be glass all the way down. The solid color metal mesh pieces are still there but tucked away only in that corner toward the Proper and fade into the background.

Another exaggerated example of a parking podium for all the world to see in all of its ugly glory. Almost as bad as 405 colorado. Heck, maybe even worse from that angle.

It's an interesting building, because it's sole purpose seems to be to create a backstop/contrast to the much-more-interesting Proper. There's lot of interplay between them when you see them from, say, Cesar Chavez.

I think they would have updated the renderings if the base was changed that drastically so I would expect that layer of glass to come later but that is just a guess.

Looks like the top floor. Layout is different from previous floors, it looks like a facade around some mechanical rooms, and that's it.
