retail

as mentioned earlier, Reveille Coffee Co. has opened on the corner of Fourth and Long Bridge streets, to offer a first glimpse of what food-oriented storefronts can do to enliven the streetlife. I haven't been in yet, but seems well-visited and well-appointed

I'll throw this in ... this was from last weekend, just to show context

sure would be nice to get that section of the MB Commons done, now that the parcels on both sides of it will soon all be complete!

When are they going to get those linear parks done? It's such a shame. There are people living there now. Is it the developer holding back?

wasn't able to make the ribbon-cutting, but here are a few more shots of Family House as it gets its finishing touches, taken one morning earlier this week...

showing a glimpse of the newish Starbucks across the street. (edit: ha, just noticed the passing Muni car is coincidentally also advertising for them)

MB Commons in foreground

balloons left over from the recent festivities, looking west down MB Blvd

looking north along Third St

looking south down Merrimac St across the barren wastes of no-man's-land between the residential and UCSF zones of MB

the SE corner of Arden with El Dorado St on the right and northern MB in the distance

march 2000

sep 2005

thanks for your frequent updates, timbad.

man, wish they'd built it all 12-20 stories, instead of going low rise. a huge waste of potential on rare disused land. whatever you think of vancouver, when you look at what they did in a similar area, you see the immense tragedy of the 1990s development plan the city adopted. their architecture looks the same, theirs is just was denser. you feel it walking around, very alive there.

yes, they mussed a big opportunity here. When I'm in the area it feels like I'm in Downtown SJ. They building should have been 2-3 times taller.

in the vein of fflint's found vintage photo, I came across this one looking south on Third at King in the late 1970s...

and thought it would be fun to do a comparison

other random shots from yesterday

block 1 construction as seen from Third St Bridge

the 'Coming Soon' window coverings have finally come down after what seems like over year on the food market space at the SE corner of Fourth and Channel, tho I don't think it is open yet:

slightly closer up:

ah, here's the scoop

looking north on Fourth from China Basin St. still amazes me to think almost nothing you see in this shot existed in 2007, and most of it still didn't in 2012

looking north on Fourth from MB Commons

something is going on on part of the Commons parcel just west of Fourth, not sure what, but it's probably not the greenspace intended yet, since a temporary playing field still occupies the rest of the lot

The Regents yesterday approved UCSF's request to spend $21 million to begin design on this project. Still planning to start construction in fall 2017 with an opening in spring 2020.

Uber

Uber HQ delayed, according to Socketsite

Quote:
The final design approval for the development is now expected in two weeks time. And based on a new construction schedule and groundbreaking by the end of the year, the campus will likely be ready for occupancy around the middle of 2018.

the shelves are getting stocked...

... and just seeing this lit up at night makes the neighborhood feel that much more like it is settling into being a real place

across the street on this balmy evening, the sidewalk was full in front of Reveille
