My friend was visiting recently and was able to snap a picture from the double tree on South Broad.

It would seem a couple people here don't follow local Philly news as closely as I do.

Teen violence on Chestnut Street has calls for nearby school to be moved | 6ABC

Philadelphia police investigating assault by group of juveniles in Center City | 6ABC

In a milder instance — which I observed first-hand for about 20 minutes one mid-afternoon weekday about a month ago, after I emerged from the subway at the Clothespin — Philly and SEPTA Police, bolstered by a number of Sheriff's deputies (which in itself is not normally a function of the Sheriff's office) were having difficulties dispersing a group of several dozens of teens there. A line of law enforcement would advance, clearing the kids from the plaza, and then as the police backed up to their original positions, the kids again advanced forward toward the police line. Lather, rinse, repeat, lots of running back and forth. The scene repeated several times until a few adults, presumably officials from the nearest charter school, came on the scene to enter the crowd and help with the dispersal.

Jayfar is right, not sure how you can argue against him when there are 15 cops lined up at this intersection when school lets out everyday...

I am also sad to say I've witnessed the same bullshit, I'm in Philly literally everyday working & the lack of respect the kids have for anything is sad. disregard for the police, disregard for the crosswalks, disrespectful to people &, etc I literally witnessed a group of cops on chestnut try to disperse a group of kids & one of the kids shouted: "F**K the police with yall small ass D****".

I'm sad to see this as I am a young POC (person of color) those kids would never listen to me I would just be called a coon.

So people don't snap on Jay, he's not lying.

i don’t need to be told to pay attention to things i see firsthand all the time. and if you actually watched the one video: if a grown ass man got out of his car and started running after my friend when i was in high school, i would have protected my friend too, even if he was acting like a dumbass. the other videos show LITERAL kids. i’m not excusing shitty behavior but what did these cops clearing the square expect from a bunch of smart ass kids? why are you ok with that sort of aggressive behavior from law enforcement against a group of kids - both sides sound like they were antagonizing.

i’m not saying these instances aren’t disturbing and there is no excuse for what these kids did, but a few bad apples shouldn’t mean “all kids in center city after school are dangerous menaces”, which is what i took away from the initial statement that i responded to.

I know this is off topic, but yeah there have been a lot of flash mobs lately actually. I witnessed one 2 weeks ago that apparently started at 15th St station with group theft/beatings and by the time I saw them on 12th and Chestnut they were beating people in the streets, and another apparently happened a couple days after according to some other posts and videos. The news isn't reporting on it, surprisingly. This stuff has been cyclical for years, and with these events in addition to the July 4th mob I guess it's back in fashion for now.

Truly can't imagine going through life so afraid. Best of luck to you.

Calm down allovertown and crew. I work on 15th/chestnut and I’m not scared of walking around, but the facts are there is a LOT of misbehaving kids instigating violence and property damage. There’s a reason a small army of police are here everyday. There’s a reason why Liberty Place Mall closes down for any unsupervised kids under 18 at 1pm everyday. How is this controversial?

Well it's a bad look and a reputation that would be hard to shake.
Is there a lack of surveillance cameras? I hate to say it but this area should be flooded with security cameras so these kids can be held accountable.

Not singling out this post, but I hope we can all agree to say we have different views on a complicated issue

Now, back to the focus of this thread and that blank wall?

Also, sorry to all for escalating earlier. i don’t enjoy when i see these sort of sideways and heated responses (and no, no mods reached out before this addition lol)

Hire the "kids" to do something creative to the blank wall.

Fitting for a dinosaur like JurassicPhilly to be named as such. And Tony, I’m sure they didn’t hang a W on the other side because that would make the “Wall” all that more epic!
