My guess is market conditions and financing led to this downsizing.

Description
ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW FOR REVISIONS AS ILLUSTRATED ON PLANS, RESULTING IN REDUCTION OF BUILDING FOOTPRINT, REDUCTION OF GROSS FLOOR AREA, REDUCTION OF MAXIMUM BUILDIG HEIGHT, REDUCTION OF NUMBER OF DWELLING UNITS, AND REDUCTION OF NUMBER OF PARKING SPACES. CONTINUATION OF ALL OTHER PREVIOUSLY APPROVED USES.

So the developer downsized the project (21 stories to 13?) after construction started? That seems very odd and unbelievable.

Where does it say 13 stories? The permit that was issued for this project many months ago was for a foundation only, so it's very possible that they changed the building design in the meantime.

That Aldi should be (unless I am much mistaken) the city's first uban-format one. I hope we start to see more of them pop up -- us peeps with paltry means need places to get groceries too!

Why are zoning notices and permit applications written in all caps? In what world does that make it easier to read? Is it a result of the city's computer system?

If I were running L&I, I would ban all caps, require plain English (at least on publicly posted zoning notices) and require line breaks and separate paragraphs.

There is finally a crane on site- appears to be crawler crane with a serious boom. Perhaps this is only to construct the parking garage.

Why doesn't this site automatically resize and rescale images? It's a common feature.

Or do something really crazy like allow you to copy and paste images.

Unless it has changed it should be a crawler for the garage and then a tower crane for the building and architectural panels.

It's not the site itself as much as it is just BBCode. I'm also sure the admins of SSP don't feel like paying for hosting thousands of high res images.

Not news to most, but the amount of development on N. Broad here--and Ridge Ave (15th to 17th Streets) and streets in between is really staggering. You would think a brand new neighborhood was being built. I have no doubts that the grocery store being built into 1300 Fairmount will thrive.

The parking garage for this thing is already 2 stories off of the ground. I drove by today but couldn't snap a pic.
