Talking Has your city ever had a 100+ floor skyscraper proposal? Let's see them!

This might be a fun exercise. Show us your cities 100+ floor skyscraper proposal. If not, what's the tallest building that's been proposed in your city.

Unfortunately, there have been none in Jersey City, but 2015 was a great year for skyscraper proposals. There were 3 skyscrapers proposed that year that were planned to be 95 floors each.

99 Hudson

Image from New York Yimby

Originally proposed in 2015 as a 95-floor, 950ft building, the final design resulted in a density allowance rising only up to 76-storys.

55 Hudson

Image from New York Yimby

Originally identified as a 95-floor office building in planning documents (1) (2) (3). The final proposal approved by the city was for two residential towers of 58 and 42 floors.

Liberty Rising Hotel and Casino

Image from New York Yimby

Proposed by Paul Fireman, this would have been a massive 95 floor hotel at 100 Craven Point, Jersey City. According to the Wall Street Journal, it would have included 1,500 room hotel, restaurants, theater and a North-Jersey Casino. The state ballot measure to open up casinos outside of Atlantic City did not pass and the proposal was abandoned. The idea was that it would harm gaming revenue in Atlantic City. As revenge, I hope the Manhattan-based casino mops up and New Jersey misses out on the opportunity to collect all of those tax dollars.

100 floors is child's play.

chicago once had a "proposal" for this ridiculous 210 floor, 2,500' tall monster back in the '80s.

known as the Chicago World Trade Center, it was to have over 10M SF of space, or more than double the sears tower!

and here's how it would've looked had it been built back then:

Would love to see this one come back. Love this design and obviously the height (NJ's first supertall?)

And gaming revenue in AC is going to be wiped out with a casino in Manhattan. So they might as well open up.

It was tacky as hell/Vegas gimmicky but something will be built there eventually. I doubt it will be very tall.

Yes, agree completely with the need for a North Jersey casino. Philly and Manhattan will outright obliviate Atlantic City as a Casino destination. If Jersey City wants any kind of tax dollars, they got to open it up now.

The original 1 and 2 World Trade Center provided the same amount of square footage of leasable office space at 10,000,000. Crazy to think all of that was “proposed” to be in one building. You’re probably looking at 100,000 workers, if built.

Seattle had a 100-story proposal, but after a lengthy process with the FAA they're back with a 90-story, 1,020' proposal. It'll be just downhill from the Columbia Center but still peak a little higher.

Remarkably, it would fit in. Even more so than the Spire, which would have suffered from a poor location within the the skyline’s overall composition. Does not look out of place or scale at all to me. Has anyone ever shown/rendered what this would look like in today’s Chicago skyline?

There was an infamous "proposal" in the 1980s in Phoenix for a 114-story 6m sf tower, that was billed as a new world's tallest:

https://www.newspapers.com/clip/75560908/

It got far enough to be shut down by the FAA, and fell apart from there.

so sad, it was my favorite building in SF. SF would be #2 on the top US skyline if it didn't burn down.

100-story Dallas Skyscraper was proposed in 1985 at more than 1,550-ft including spire.

That Dallas building reminded me that Philadelphia's 1 Liberty Place was originally proposed in Houston at just over 1400'. Looks like it only would have been 82 floors though.
https://phillyyimby.com/2021/05/bank...rty-place.html

Now I'm reminded that Philly had this 1510' monster, although apparently would have only had 63 floors.
https://phillyyimby.com/2021/02/the-...nter-city.html

Boston's Trans National Place would have been over 1000' but got stopped in its tracks by the FAA. Also apparently only 75 stories. See the very first post here for renders of it. Note that this ended up becoming the almost finished 691' Winthrop Square Tower.

Ah someone proposed the Green Bird for London, a stone's throw from Parliament.

It would have put London on the map in 1998, the true pride of Europe, yes. A new icon for 2,000 years of history, royalty, empire and nationhood that you'd be able to spot from just about everywhere.

Not sure why it never got far?

Though tbf we did get the Gherkin a couple of years later

being a child of the 90s, I am always fascinated by the 80s skyscraper boom. It produced most of my favorite modern skyscrapers in the US along with easily having the most ambitious proposals.

Philly's never built World Trade Center is probably my favorite of the never-built supertalls. It was going to have a massive globe that could shoot a beam of light lol.
